Now that I'm looking for a good project to get into, I'm noticing some major differences with the GT Performers that I didn't notice back in the second grade. I was hoping that somebody might be able to shed some light on this.
All of my questions pertain to the single bend frames....
Are these '86 and older?
What is the situation with the 3 holes vs 4 holes?
Some of the frames don't have the 4130 stamped in below the GT stamp?
Some of the single bend frames have a crossbar between the bottom of the dropouts for a brake?
Serial numbers either on dropouts or BB?
Whats the difference between a Pro Performer and a Performer, how can you tell by looking at a frame?
These are the differences that I have noticed, I'm sure there's more I didn't notice.
-Thanks in advance, Chuck

Check out "question for the performer gods" in the freestyle forum, that should answer all you questions. Justin

Ok, I read it again. Is this the official word?
Not necessarily, 3 hole drop outs were indeed 84/85, but only US made if the serial number is on the drop out in the fashion of month/year (ex.1184)! Any Performer or Pro Performer with the serial# on the BB is overseas made regardless of it having 3 holes. You can also have a 4 hole drop out that was made in the USA if the serial number is also month/year (ex. 1186) on the dropout. If thats the case....it was sold & built by GT in the US as a frameset only & not a complete bike. If you have a Pro/Performer with 3 holes and serial number is on the BB and it starts with any letter then numbers (letter standing for which overseas shop built it) it was sold as a complete bicycle! As listed above all production Performer forks had 4 holes!

3 hole rear drops indicate 1984 or 1985.
They switched in late 85 to 4 holes.
Performer forks were always 4 hole.
You have a real one.

Is there a way to tell the difference between the frames for the Pro performer and the performer?

I think I understand now. For example this "87 Pro Performer", was actually an 87 performer with Pro Performer stickers.

Look for the SN on the dropout. That sounds like the easiest way. I saw a GT Vertigo today at the skatepark that looks just like a PP. Too many variables. Look for the SN. Here's my '86 GT PP Eddie Fiola World Tour. It came as a frameset and was made in late '85. Just got the bars. Still need purple PP forks.
