I really like the "blue album" it's definitely grown on my over the years...
What's funny though is that I saw Weezer open for Live at a country bar in Phoenix in like '94 when that record came out...I checked out there set, thought, hmmm...those guys are pretty good! My friends would not check them out (too busy drinking on the other side of the bar) because they were sooo geeked to see Live...hahaha
It was really strange seeing two "indie" rock bands with pictures of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash all over the place!!! haha

It's cool to see this thread come around again. A friend turned me on to this amazing music critic Robert Palmer. Palmer did the music reviews for the NY Times in the 70's and 80's and wrote for Rolling Stone. He's also written an amazing book called "Deep Blues" and another "Rock and Roll an unruly history" that I highly, I mean highly, recommend.
From those two books I've been singing the praises of Guitar Slim, T-bone Walker, and Magic Sam among others.
I've also hit upon a great Rockabilly collection titled "That'll Flat Git It" that has 24 volumes of collections from various record labels from the 50's-60's. It's really worth checking into.
Here's a couple of tunes I've been revisiting this week.
Beale St. Sheiks-"It's a Good Thing" circa 1929

Hattie Hudson-"Doggone My Good Luck Soul" circa 1929

Memphis Minnie w/Kansas Joe McCoy-When The Levee Breaks 1929
