BITD I once painted a Mongoose camo just to go hunting with. Had a rifle scabbard mounted to the bars. It was quiet on approach, and when you laid it down, it hid well.
Got the idea from spray bombing archery tackle.

This post is in response to something Spur mentioned in one of his earlier remarks.
Man, this topic gets rougher by the day.
I, myself, wouldn't rule out a survivor that was spray-bombed and here is why.
Let's take my '81 Quad as an example. I bought it in August '81. After racing it a number of times, and banging around the track, making contact with the other riders, sometimes violently, the paint got chipped. Once it chipped, it started coming off in chunks at the slightest provocation. I don't know if it was a crappy/faulty paint job, but it looked horrible. So, being the handy chap I am, I stripped it to the metal, primed it sanded it, and painted it. Turned out pretty decent. As it got chipped up and nasty looking, I did it all again. The last time I can remember painting it was about '85, and I stopped racing in late '86/'early '87 as near as I can remember.
As far as the parts went, by around '83 I had my bike set up exactly as I wanted it, and the only thing I changed after that were soft goods (tires, grips, brake pads.)
All that for this: If someone posted up a bike in a situation similar to mine, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Back then, I wasn't thinking about preservation, or originality, it was just ride, ride ride. Keep it looking as good as I could and keep on riding.
Maybe there should be sub-categories for survivors:
Survivor- Factory
Survivor- LBS Floor
Survivor- Rider Built BITD
I think it boils down to everyone's personal view of what a survivor is... and I don't think there is a right answer.
