You guys may have noticed that we have increased the "thumbnail" picture for photos hosted here on OS-BMX.

Hosting here is open to any registered member.

We noticed that a lot of people seem to want the photo to be big in the thread... They don't like that there were small thumbnails that could be clicked on to open to full size. Apparently people prefer to have them big instantly in the thread.

OK. So... we have increased the size of the thumbnails. They aren't even thumbnails anymore really... more like a whole hand at this point.

Look, I went to put my wish list in with Santa today.

So... that's the size of the thumbs... they will still get bigger when you click them open, but hopefully some of the most historically important and interesting photos will be hosted here.

Because if you host them off site... sure as the sun rises tomorrow, that will leave holes in the thread at some point.

OK. Hate to sound like an idiot but how do I do that? Can you point me in the right direction. It took me a while to figure out how to post pics from Photobucket.

If Rick is Santa, does that mean that Thom and JP are elves?

Wow... Santa flying a hack... I'm definitely staying up to wait for him this year with my 2-year-old daughter... for the first time in 40 years! Maybe he'll finally bring me that set of Redline cranks I asked for back in '79.

This is so much better IMO, hopefully we'll have more site hosted images.

Thanks for doing this Steve, and good looking out Astro.

In addition to the new thumbnail size, everyone should check out the OS-BMX Gallery.

Its really easy to create your own album and upload your images right from your control panel. :writing:

Then you can link your album pics wherever you want to, kinda like your very own OS-BMX photobucket, its really a great tool.

Every time I try using the site to upload photos it always fails and says the file is too big. I do everything exactly like shown above.....hmmmmm. My maximum upload is 1000K, at least that is what it says on the page when I go to upload a photo.

Have you guys tried reducing your photos?

I'm about to be in airports for the next couple days - ie away from internet. You'll have to ask moderators to help you, but PLEASE... everyone should be able to reduce the size of their own photos on their own computer. Read your camera's manual (choose to shoot at a lower resolution)... or search the internet for things like "reducing the size of my photos".

If you are not a site supporter, your per photo allowance is smaller than site supporters but... you'll still be able to post a photo that is plenty big. PLENTY BIG. You can do it if you really try. I have no doubt.

Jon, you are well known for the huge size of your photo files. Could it be that you have each photo at a few mb in size?

1000k is another way of saying 1mb, Spike. That's big. A single photo that size is of a proportion or resolution that is way beyond what is necessary. I increased it just now to 1.5mb anyway. So meet us halfway on this stuff.

For the premier members like Jon and BMX dad... the per post limit is 4.5 mb.... that is just HUGE.

The per file limit is 2mb. That is a default on the board and I can't adjust it. That is just enormous and way beyond what is practical. I see people are putting up photos in BOTY that are over 1mb each... it is truly absurd, and frankly - a little lazy. (Read your camera manual or if you lost it, look up the pdf on line).

Take a look at the photo of Lionel's Profile cruiser, above in this thread. It isn't even 100 kb and it looks great! Ample size, ample resolution... it's perfect.

You guys can do this if you really try. I have no doubt.
