These struck me as interesting. I see MonocoqueMike won them. I didn't want to ask about them while the auction was running.

What's the story here? Era? Company profile? What else did they make? Any pertinent details that anyone can add? They seem broadly reminiscent of Technique cranks.

They are VERY VERY RARE!!!! I can't recall seeing a set of those in real life.
That logo reminds me alot of the Oxcart symbol.

I was watching those to put on my Herrington Crusader. Chad Herrington's short-lived Company (Chad was the ninja-esque dirt jumper from the 90's), not many sets were made of those, I think 150 or so. I know Turner Drive Systems marketed his frames back in the day, not sure who made the cranksets. They are bearingless cranks, like PMC cranks (Chad ran PMC's early on maybe why he liked that idea). They look stout but I have always been a little skeptical about that design. Regardless I wanted them for my Herrington but as usual slept throught it. There was a set on ebay last week that never met the reserve and were at 500 clams.

I won these cranks...Sorry I haven't commented yet, but I was out of town for the 4th of July....I was kind of upset when I saw this auction was ending at 10:34 central time in Chicago, but I found someone that was gonna be home to bid on them for me. Spur, I'm glad we didn't get in a bidding war on these because my "max bid" was REALLY high...lol...Don't worry Spur, these cranks are going on a Herrington 20 incher with the turner AWD system It has the original fork as well...I will be posting pics of it soon...I'm totally psyched about this build because I don't know anyone that has a Herrington bike with the Turner AWD system...I'll post some more info and better pics of the cranks when I get them. On that other auction for the Herrington cranks, he added at the bottom that Chad contacted him and said that there were only 110 sets made, so I'm glad I got them...and for a lot cheaper than I expected...

Mike that is totally awesome that you actually have a Crusader II, I never was sure TDS ever produced that AWD bike, I have only seen the one in the ad. Sweet deal.

Spur,Funny thing is, the stickers on the bike say Crusader I, not Crusader II on the sticker set. But on the headtube of the bike, it has a sticker that says "Turner Drive System Inc." on it. So I'm thinking the bike was meant to be a AWD bike but was possibly mis-stickered? What does the sticker say on the headtube of your Herrington? I also think that it is an early version of the Crusader all wheel drive bike. Chad is a member on one of the other sites, so as soon as I get the pictures I am going to send them to him to see if he could give me some info on the bike. Unfortunately, I don't have the front hub that came with the bike...That, like a set of Herrington bars will be virtually impossible to find, but we'll see.Can you get us some more pics of your bike Spur? And a specs list? I'm thinking about getting a brand x stem for mine too...

Same head tube decal, Turner Drive Systems, the distributed them. This build up is not the final version, it was done for the Rat Bike build off. Stephen has me talked into going a little further with it.

Very cool bike...I have the exact fork in the ad for the AWD bike, so maybe it is a Crusader I that was upgraded to a II without getting a re-sticker job. Like I said, I'll have to contact Chad to see if he remembers this bike. It is a yellow frame and a yellow fork, not polished like in the pic in the ad...Pics will be up tomorrow!

So does you fork have the mount for the drive system or is it the traditional style fork? My guess that front hub is nothing more than a rear hub. While the spacing for a front and rear are different its only maybe 5mm. This could be solved with machined down lock collars or thin nuts like on loose ball hubs. The rear is what is going to be tough. It would need threads like a Clemtwin. A normal flip flop hub would be kind of cheating but it would work.

The rear wheel has a seperate sprocket along with the freewheel that operates the all wheel drive system. The bike came as a complete, but it had a crappy wheelset with crappy hubs and what not. I will post the pics of what the bike looked like before I stripped it down so you can get a better idea of what I mean. My fork is the same as the one on the crusader II in the ad, but I think that extra "plate was just to protect the AWD system from getting bashed. The AWD system mounts onto the axle...pics tomorrow, I promise! haha

I was able to see the smaller cog on the front and rear and how it worked. I just wasn't sure if you had hubs or not. Very cool. I am looking forward to the pics.

Here are the pics...I haven't even gotten a chance to wipe this down with a wet rag, sorry it's so dirty, but I know a few of you guys are waiting on pics...If you guys want me to post the pics of the bike as I got it let me know...it had some mountain bike parts on it and looked pretty funny...haha...Money order went out on the cranks today, so I should see them some time next week...

Wow... there it is; unicorn steak, rocking horse shit, hens teeth, etc. That is wild. Please bring it to El Do next year so I can ride it.

Usually I'm inclined to keep things simple and I'm wary of anything that may stray into the realm of gimmick... but you gotta hand it to them for thinking way outside the box and trying something unique.

So... I guess it goes without saying that TDS was a company run by devout Christians. No offense to anyone by any means, but with that logo and the frame name they aren't exactly mincing the symbolism.
