first of all i want to say hi to everyone. i came across this site after finding my old SE Quad a few days ago. once i seen many of the old school bikes and reading many of the post i pulled my old bike out again and decided to start to rebuild it. what i have is a October 1982 #162 quadangle with redline cranks, so i have alot of work to do and way to many things to search out and find to get it back into shape but i will be sure and keep everyone up to date as i go alonge with it.

this is my first build, just like you after getting my old PK back from the Mom's garage 7 or 8 years ago, for inspiration. My old ride from 83. Was in about the same shape.

Nice first post...welcome to the site! You will be so stoked when you get that thing rolling again. It may take some time and money to find the parts you want, but it will be well worth it.

Awesome! Here are a couple of pictures of my youngest son a few years ago on his Quad that was built using all nos parts. His is serial number 108202. It was the second Quad produced after the looptail Quads. He still has it and still rides it when he can.
Please just rebuild your bike and don't restore it! You will enjoy it much more that way in my humble opinion.
Welcome to the site by the way!

Welcome to the site--looks like you have an excellent beginning to your restoration. And congratulations for being able to hang onto your original childhood ride!

cool bike, glad you held on to it after all these years.
Did you move around a lot or did you pretty much stay around the same general area? I wonder if that's the key to people holding on to their old bikes, or maybe it's that mom and dad have to stay put and not clean out the garage/basement/attic or whatever.
anyways... just random pondering.
Welcome to the addiction

Not sure if that's the key -- My TA went from my parents' back yard shed and then out to western PA with me for a year. When I came home, I put it in my Aunt's garage because my parents were getting ready to move. I fortunately had the presence of mind not to put it back in the shed!! I eventually moved it out of my Aunt's garage and into my own apartment where it sat dormant for two years, then stuck it in my attic in 2001 and finally pulled it out again to begin its restoration in 2006 -- Glad I did...
Anyway....
The finish on the bike looks pretty good from the pics. What OldskoolPK was trying to say is, don't be quick to strip that old paint off and have it refinished. Take some time to polish it up and see if that does it for you. If you're still not happy with it, then have at it.
For me personally, I like to try to preserve the original finish (chips and scrapes and all) if at all possible. If that were my quad, I'd try to keep it exactly like it is, stickers and all!
Whatever you decide, good luck with it! Enjoy the site and happy riding!!
