Last weekend I went to see my old college room mate. The stuff I gave him back in '88 was to build up a bike so he could ride with me. He still has it all. It just sits there and I can get it if I ever want it. I don't think I ever will but he assures me he'll build up my 84 Master someday so he can ride with his kids. For now, it'll keep collecting dust.

I think he was just being polite. He obviously doesn't share your same enthusiasm for riding bikes. You can give things to people in hopes that they will, and then they have other excuses. Don't sweat it.

Wow- silver-flanged graphite Tuffs? 1984 Master frame sets? He must've been a great roomie!
I once sent a NOS black/chrome RL-20II frame set to my best riding bud' from BITD, along with Super Pros and everything else he needed to build up a rig. He eventually did and loves it.

IMHO in all honesty Im gonna say bad move.
If ANYTHING would happen to that stuff you will kick yourself.
Not saying it would be sold or anything, but shit goes missing.. all of a sudden it may be like:
Someone tossed/stole/misplaced/moved that old stuff.
Get it all back and put it in safe keeping.
That is what I would do anyway

He did ride it with me back then. the bars, frame and fork are all primed and ready for paint.
Shawn has always been a great guy and he's like a brother to me. I gave that stuff to him because I didn't want it anymore. Graphite tuffs were free to me in '88 (best friend on Skyway) and I didn't want it then and I'm glad he has it still.

Oh yeah. Brett, the Philly Ride is set for Sat. Sept 19th this year. Same meeting place. I really hope you and the rest of the crew can make it out again. last year was a blast.
Maybe poke your buddy Shawn, with these parts - to come cruise a long too. It'll surely plant the seed to get him riding again.

Actually, a couple of years ago, Drob called and said he was builiding up his Brass plated T/A. He wanted to know if I had any Graphites left. I told him the only one I had was a coaster brake (made especially for the team in 88). Since Drob is a coaster guy, I told him he could have it. He asked how much and I told him it is priceless but he deserves to have it more than me. I gave it to him for free.
On Drob's behalf, about 6 months later a set of blue Tuffs showed up at my house. They looked brand new. Drob told me he got them and they were all faded so he cleaned them and dyed them back to the original blue. He knew I always wanted blue tuffs but never had them.
I have a love for all the old bikes and parts. I like to see them appreciated for what they are, not as a status symbol or investment. I always tell people I can get another $100 bucks but I'll never get a graphite coaster tuff wheel. If I do sell stuff, it's at way less than the going rate. Call me a reverse bike snob I guess. I would rather give away parts to a friend than sell them to a stranger.
