Awesome thread on MCS history. I raced this 79 Magnum back in 82. I was the only one I knew that had one, Metro Detroit area. Most guys around here didnt know what it was. I won a lot of races on it. I managed to keep it until I moved out then my old man gave it away.

You can always count on me for the low end stuff; Hutch Windstyler, Free Agent non-Limo, Kuwahara Nova, 1979 MCS Spider.

Very cool. I had a chrome one that I bought back about that time at Grand Blanc Schwinn, and nobody else really knew what it was. I traded the frame to a local guy (Mike Chapman) for a Frame and fork because I didn't have a decent fork. I still love the square gusset magnums.

There was a local shop back in New York that carried some MCS stuff. That was the first experience with them. Then my brother bought a first gen Styler. It was a very nicely made bike, but definitely a different looking to say the least.

When I started racing at Jockey Hill in Kingston New York, which was a NBL track. I got a chance to meet Dennis Neubauer (sp?). He was a factory MCS rider. He was a great guy and extremely fast. Dennis used to also do clinics for the younger riders which was really cool.

Why do the late 1980s MCS Magnums and Magnum Pros get a bad rap? I came across one, NOS, and it is amazing. The chrome job is top notch. very rich, almost gooey. And the welds are sick. Some of the nicest I have seen. Mine has a 20.5 top tube and has a nice roomt feel to it.

It's not like these frames were crapped out by robot. I built mine up and gave it to a friend as a gift. He loves it. Loves riding it.
Just strange how these frames get less love than a Huffy Pro Thunder (which in reality, are poorly made for real bmx riding.) If it's a fashion thing, that I can understand. But from a purely functional standpoint, it makes little sense to me.

In general, late 80s is past my era of real interest. As far as bikes I want to build, post 1981 is pushing it for me. But that said, this frame is cool. Anyway, I ramble...

Thanks, Steve. Feel free to delete my thread asking the same question.

Joe, I will just integrate the two threads into one.

Not a fan of the decals they had later 80s but the framesets look very well made. I kind of dig the look of em, as for geometry I never rode one to know. There was a early 80s cruiser (24) for sale on the museum not too long ago. It had the old black and chrome decals. It was pretty sick I really thought about buying it but then it was gone.

It seems a lot of the east coast and mid america companies do not get much. I do agree Mcs would probably be the most under rated and under loved. However I feel TNT and Cycle Craft would also fall into that category.

Mcs was pretty big in New York with Dennis Neabauer being the local factory Hot Shoe at Jockey Hill Bmx. However without him I doubt there would of been the love there was. As time went on Tnt and Cycle Craft both became much more popular in my parts bitd.

Names have a lot to do with it. I hate the cycle craft name....it might sound petty but oh well. I also hate drop outs under the chain stay, however, I love the fork drops.

I agree, TNT one of the most under rated companies, insane quality and style.

I think another factor for Mcs is the fact outside of the Mantis, and the over done but very cool Styler their designs were overly subtle and often overlooked.

WOW. Never seen those MCS cruiser bars. VERY COOL.

My MagnaCruise is the only one of my OS bikes I ride, and it rides great.
