I also run a few forums and when I did the upgrade one of the big complaints was that the forum looked "off" and people were having trouble while making posts.

Here is the easiest way to fix these problems.
Get away from using Internet Explorer.

I have not had much love for Internet Explorer and have used other browsers for sometime.
Here are a few of the options out there

Google Chrome

Firefox

Opera

Safari

Maxthon

Avant

Deepnet

If you are having trouble give one (or more) of the other browser options a try. You may find you like one of the other guys better than IE altogether.

I only use IE, and have never had an issue with IE.

I can imagine what my clients would say if I told them to get away from i.e. because
we introduced some that caused a problem in i.e. There are some good reasons for switching from i.e. To
something else. Not testing thoroughly is not one of them.

Quick question -- what version of IE are you using? (Click Help -> About). If you're using a version older than 7, you're probably having big issues. IE 6 just can't handle all the latest code well. Version 8 would probably work best (although I haven't personally tried it). Version 7 works much better than 6 (although you might find some little oddities here and there).

There's many major websites out there now urging you to switch if you're using IE 6. Facebook is one I can think of right off the top of my head. When you open your Facebook page it tells you that you'll be able to view it better and use all of its features if you upgrade to the latest version.

If you want the latest and greatest features, you gotta use latest and greatest tools to apply them.

I wouldn't necessarily say move away from IE, but I'd certainly suggest using the latest version.

Sean... sorry for your troubles, but you'be been managing for the past few days right? I don't think anything has changed at all.

Curious... not suggesting you change it, but what browser and version is it you are using?

Picture posting problem. Every image I post that is under a certain size appears to get auto stretched to a default larger size. I haven't found any options for sizing a posted image, am I missing something?

Also looking for user controls for Ascending and Descending viewing options. Did The shoutBox Ascending and Descending get changed?

Feedback, Suggestions and Site Technical Issues

Yeah... the shout box is ordered differently.

I know change is hard, folks. But on some of these issues... is it really such a big deal? When I saw the shout box was different, I thought "ah, it's new content on top now." I just went with it. Didn't really deliberate the matter beyond a split second.

I just didn't even consider that this was an issue. I just adjusted and moved on.

There's some serious bugs. To me... that's not one of them. I don't have the expertise to fix real bugs myself. I am dependent on the web guy. I'm trying to handle shit. He does it when he does it. I wish he'd drop everything and handle these things, but I do realize that that is at least a little unrealistic.

Speaking generally now... some people seem to take these glitches very personally. Does that make sense? Think about it... why would that be? The fact of the matter is that some people are having a lot of problems, on the other hand many are having none. That alone should show that some of this stuff is not on the site end. If it were... everyone would face the same issue. I realize that isn't much consolation, and I will still try to do what I can about it.

Real issues - please believe, I'm trying to get it fixed.

I do appreciate knowing about those genuine issues. Database errors... oddly resized pics. Yeah, that's useful, it needs to be handled. But some of the stuff... not all by any means, but some... is a bit much.

I can only image how frustrating and overwhelming it is to be you, Steve.

Very few people post thanks for keeping the board solid and working, but if one small change is made, a shit storm of complaints roll in.

Please don't take my comments as bitching. When I ask about ascending/descending orders, I'm just curious and thinking maybe I missed a user setting. Same for the picture thing too. After posting the images above, I have a pretty good idea of what's happening and can work around it until it is fixed or not.

Currently images smaller than 500 PX width are being stretched out to 500 PX. If you don't want your image distorted you simply place it on a background that is 500 PX. This doesn't work for hooked images, because you can't do the same trick.

Seriously, The new site is growing on me more and more. I'm liking the new options, I'm fine with the section changes, even cool with the fixed width template... now that I'm not tugging along in IE.

I'll try to focus on the bigger issues and follow your lead.

No worries. The picture issue is one that needs to be dealt with for sure.

I went through the IP Admin manual and didn't see anything about setting PX upload filter sizes in the control panel. If I read the thing right, those settings are handled in the "Skin", "Template", "Theme"... whatever you want to call it. I haven't ruled out the possibility of it being my Firefox browser/Windows combo. Maybe AGUILAR3 can post the same test I did above. Start with a 600 PX image and step it down, then post them up.

No, I see what you are saying. If the photo uploaded is smaller to than the default "thumbnail" image (which we choose to make bigger than a typical thumbnail) you are right... it seems to be stretching it to fit.

I've asked the web master about this. I'm sure he'll check it out.

isn't that a good thing though? I mean, when browsing the web, you want to see nice size detailed images and not thumbnails.

For instance, When looking at articles posted by members,I love the fact that all you do is click on the image posted and you get a full size version of the thumb.

One thing I hate is when viewing through post and you come across an image that is way too small to enjoy. Ive even seen thumbnail size images uploaded in the past.

I'm all for larger images and greater detail, but I feel sorry for the poor bastard who is trying to figure out why his for sale pictures are showing up distorted. The images do look fine when you click on them. I guess I don't know why you would want a poor/smaller image to look worse. Maybe we just need to have it spelled out if we want a larger image requirement.

Could just be a simple fix auto_stretch = false
