I started ride'n again after my oldest daughter got her first 20" bike about 2yrs ago. I threw together a mixed-match bike from an old no-name bmx bike I got from Bradlees. I just restored my PK just the other day to ride with her,& added some parts to her bike to give her bike that old school feel like dad's. We ride as often as possible when it's warm enough, most of the time it's to our favorite fishing spots.
Do you still ride a BMX bike?
At least occasionally?

Wow it's totally cool that I randomly discovered this site. Just turned 40 last year and now that I moved to a smaller city I decided to buy a bike and not wanting a mtn bike or road bike I was going to buy one of those small folding commuter bikes and then thought about a BMX bike. My girlfriend made me wait until the spring to get one and my new school We The People got delivered yesterday. The country where I live has only one main BMX store (yes, in the entire country) and there's another store, but they're poorly managed and never keep anything current or in stock.
Anyway, the weather will be good this weekend and I'm going to go riding on a BMX bike for the first time in 25 years.
Cheers

I'll be 50 in June.
I've always been a rider first.I guess you would call me an opportunistic collector, I dont really go out of my way looking for stuff, I just pick up what happens to cross my path. (Which over the past 20+ years has become a very overstuffed garage full of old bmx stuff).
I still hit the jumps at the track when I go ride with the boys, but I retired from competition in 2007.
My avatar picture was taken over a 15 ft step up at the track in Sept. of '09.

42,
Street ride, beach ride when I can,
Practice at local tracks like Kearny, Orange, and Bellflower when I can.
I started racing from 1978- 1985.
I came back to racing a few years back
Race a few times a year in ABA's 41 and older Expert class.
Sponsor... www.commissarystores.com
I don't collect but know/ remember way more than I should about 70's / 80's BMX
My current bike is a 2009 GHP XXL frame, fork, bars, seat post, and clamp.
I like old school bikes, but the way I ride requires new school geometry.

Absolutely! I've been riding bikes for as long as I can remember. Way before getting into BMX in middle school, I always rode a bike of some sort. I remember a time when my BMX bike was unrideable for some reason and I took my mom's 12 speed bike out and attempted a rock walk on it! The rear rim just completely folded when it touched down and I was practically on the dropouts! Yikes - I remember trying to explain that one!
Anyway, I like to get out on either my 24" or one of my 20" bikes when the weather is decent. For security reasons (no indoor secure areas at my job), I don't ride for my commute, but I really wish I could. This summer I plan to put on a lot of miles on all of my bikes, but most likely the Profile and my 24".

Holy cow. Having ridden a MTB for so long, the geometry and weight distribution of the 20" totally surprised me. Even for the bike being as light as it is, I couldn't keep the front wheel up long enough to pull off a decent wheelie, much less get any clearance on a bunny hop. On the plus side, now I've found something to do on after school and the gym.

I bought a D.B mountain bike about 2 years ago to ride with my twin daughters during the summer months just for fun.
Last year my mother told my girls about my whole crazy love affair with BMX as a youth when I lived in Redondo Beach/Mesa, AZ and later in Reno NV.
For some reason my wonderful kids didn't believe any of Grandma's wild stories about their "Old Dad" until I showed them a couple of tricks on their pretty little pink and purple two wheeled coaster braked machines
Those tricks being of course "the bunny hop", "curb endo", and "riding backward by sitting on the handlebars".
After my kids saw their Daddy do something on a bike that they have never seen before the oldest of the two said to me "pls show me how to do that and I wanna race bikes like you used to do too !
. . . So yes as a matter of fact I'm happy to say @ the age of 42 I'm back on a BMX bike after a 17 year hiatus!
I traded the Mt. bike in for a brand spanking new 24"GT in the fall of last year & now I commute to work in downtown Chicago traffic, racing buses, dogdging cabs and bunny hopping over city potholes that will swollow a runaway Toyoda with no problem at all 5 days out of the week in 30 degree spring like temps .
I'm planning on buying a BMX bikes next month for my oldest daughter to race in Indy as well .

My two buddies and me went riding at the local skatepark on wed. Awesome place, concrete bowls, ledges, all that jazz. My first real ride after 11 or so years. My body finally feels normal. Everything hurt!!

Can you still bunnyhop? Like I mentioned before, I hadn't ridden a BMX bike in over 25 years, only MTBs, so the geometry and balance was totally alien. I figure a few weeks of riding and practicing wheelies at the park will get me dialed in.
