I wanted to start a thread showing the products and details of everything Rebel Racing. Go ahead and post your stuff and any info about it....bikes, pictures, uniforms, etc.

i'll start showing the differences of the early looptail Rebels me and greyboy just figured out.

There are two different versions of the Rebel Racing "General Lee" pro looptails. We've seen pics of the Rebel Racing magazine ad's in 1981 but can't say for sure when the frames were first released. for now, we'll say 1981 through 84. For reference...the pictures show a chrome 1st gen. and orange 2nd gen.

Gen 1
  • pre-serial
  • 19" top tube
  • flat brake bridge
  • seatmast angle is similar to headtube angle
  • shorter rear dropouts
  • thin blade-cut seat post cutout on seatmast
  • chainstays are spaced a little wider where they attach to the bb shell
  • 1" top tube diameter
  • seat stays attach to the seat mast at a higher position, even with the top of the top tube

Gen 2
  • serial numbers stamped on outside of rear dropout
  • 20" top tube
  • round brake bridge (have seen a flat brake bridge example also, currently owned by r-reekie)
  • seatmast angle more laid back from head tube angle
  • longer rear dropouts
  • clean seat post cutout on seatmast
  • chainstays are attached closer together on the bb shell
  • 1 1/8" top tube diameter
  • seat stays attach to the seat mast in a lower position, even with the middle of top tube

i don't have any pics any sticktails before 85, a possibility they came out at the end of 84 but for sure by 85. there's pics of Brock Bruce still on his looptail in 1984.

Great stuff,

In regards to components I understand that some "rebel" bars where manufactured in the UK is this correct?

Nice work. I love this kind of stuff.

How is Rebel Racing related to DK? They both made/make General Lees.

those bars are made by a company called REBEL from the UK, NO RELATION to REBEL Racing from the US. :True:

there is no relationship between REBEL and DK. :OSThumbsUpPeace[1]:

Wow.. Great information Patrick.
Thanks for positing up the comparison pics and itemized list.

I've always wondered about Rebels. I never knew much about them.
Maybe we can get Jon (OldskoolPK) to post up some detailed pics of his. I believe it is slightly later, since it's not a Loop tail, it has a cyclecraft/MCS-style chainstay / seatstay junction and rear dropouts. But the rear is nice and wide - with sharper bends, similar to your Gen 1 frame set.

(borrowed this pic from Jon)

these are genuine REBEL Racing bars, 1985. although they look like cw bars, they are actually wider and have a slightly different shape. non-knurled :OSThumbsUpPeace[1]:

side note: i am in the process of collecting the parts to rebuild the bike in this pic that i got from factory rider brock bruce, circa 1984. the frame and fork came with the other rebel stuff that me and carbiz scored a few years back. its got a one of a kind fork made for brock that is really cool up close :OSThumbsUpPeace[1]:
can someone tell me what kind of pedals those are? or cages? :Idunno:
