This week found this beauty at Goodwill for $6.99. It sounds soooo good, but only one. If anyone has a right Bose 301 Series II for sale, hit me up. These would replace my 901's in the garage if I can match them up.

I'd check audiogon.com (if you aren't already)
in the meantime, you might find this a good read:

*full disclosure: I have not read it yet*

My dad had 901's driven by Macintosh tube components when I was young. I will never forget the sound of them and I will one day own a set again.

Stumbled across this today at the thrift store, SL 1300, nice shape but needle snapped off.

Couldnt pass this up for $13 at the thrift store, Sony TFM-9450W, I'd like to replace the speaker, Im sure it would sound better then. Probably from the 70's? The laminate is peeling up a little bit, Im trying to glue it down as I type. If anyone knows how to "cure" the scratchy sound when adjusting the tone and volume I'd appreciate the pointers, thanks, Claude

I've never done it, but I've read about something called Deoxit for fixing that Claude.

Thanks, I've heard of the Deoxit, I will look into it further. I was just searching ebay for a cheap 2 way 6inch Sony speaker, 8 ohm, nothing really availble. I'll keep looking and post the pics when I fix her up. :rockout:

Claude,

I have a situation just like yours with the turntable. I recently picked up a Technics SL-Q2 with an Audio Technica cartridge. When I got it home and cleaned it up, the stylus snapped off. It must have been corroded from sitting in someone's garage for the last 25 years.

Does anyone have a used turntable cartridge they want to get rid of? Hit me up...!

Tony

Tony, I ended up selling it for a few bucks on ebay....I called this company that sells styluses but the lady really didnt want to sell me a stylus that wasnt comparable$$ to the AT cartridge, she said anyone that purchased it from me would get their own high dollar stylus to go with the AT. I really just wanted to "check out" the unit to see if it played etc., before I sold it on ebay. Well as my crappy luck would have it, the guy that bought it from said the rca's have a short, and the 33/45 knob is stuck spinning at 45...he's agreed to pay for the rca's, and he's getting me an estimate for the 33/45 control issue. Seems like a legit guy, so Im working with him as best I can. Really wish I would've just bought a cheap stylus and tested it though....

Wow...that sucks. I'm pretty sure this thing works so I'll just stay patient and see if something comes around that is in my price range. Apparently, this cartridge was pretty good for its time so the stylus replacements that I have seen are way too pricey for what I want.

Ok, I couldnt beat this for $1  @ Goodwill, unopened/sealed Elvis greatest hits, 1958. Its amazing an album makes it 54 years unopened. I was really itching to spin it on the Marantz turntable but Im not opening it...On another note, I never really cared for Elvis until recently. The only Elvis I ever "knew of" is the one from the 70's. (fat & drugs) However, after seeing clips on Youtube of his 50's & 60's movie scenes as well as The Ed Sullivan show, and other stage clips, etc, etc, I have to admit, the cat was really smooth back then and the chics went NUTZ for him!

I'll never forget the day he died. My mother had candles burning everywhere and she was balling her eyes out. I came home from school and was like WTF?

I remember the day he died also...I went to a friend's house down the street and his mom was sitting on the couch crying her eyes out. I asked what happened...she told me, "Elvis is dead" In my head I was like, "who"?

I was in the back seat of my grandparents car in Brooklyn, NY. when it came on the radio. People lost their shit all over NYC that night.

My mom had this album. I listened to it 100's of times on our big console cabinet stereo when I was a kid. She may even still have this record and some others... I'll have to check next week when I'm at her place.

I was going through some of my old stuff and came across these, not exactly audiophile stuff, but cool 70's audio. And they both still work. Panasonic Toot-a-loop and Panasonic TNT 8 track player.

Thats pretty wild looking Tony!

Yesterday, I was in one of the thrift stores that I frequent and I stumbled across these for $55. I hooked them up to my system and they sound great! Pretty decent condition too, scratch here and there, but grills are both perfect. They have magnets holding the grills on, pretty cool. Klipsch KG3.5 Oak. (other speakers are ADSL1290, non thrift store purchase)

Nice pick ups guys!
I forgot about this thread. I grabbed a bunch of great gear from Craigslist a few months ago. Hafler Amp, PS Audio Line Conditioner, Sony SCD777-ES CD Player, Sansui Turntable, Adcom Pre Amp, Denon Tuner, D/A Converter, B&W Nautilus 805 Speakers & 3k in cabling & power cords alone! Some lady bought a mobile home to rehab and all of this gear was left behind in it. There are other components as well. Grabbed the whole lot for $300.00! This stuff sounds great too!
