Have you ever won an item on eBay, but felt guilty because you knew the item was worth a lot more?I understand that an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but sometimes you stumble on a great deal because the seller didn't put the item in the best category, or took bad pictures.

Just wondering what other people have won.

Here's one of mine. 2-red Comp III yellow label tires (20X2.125) excellent condition under $80. I also just won something else at a great deal, but I'll wait until it's delivered before I gloat....lol

Off ebay, looptail floval complete for $150. Swap meet finds: Looptail quad (absolutely mint) 15 years ago for $10, Kuwahara ET with looseball 401's, $15, a PAIR of Skyway T/A's in one swoop for $50 for both, '88 Team Master for $30 (never ridden)

I didn't feel bad about any of them, the quad was an afterthought that sat in my shed for years til I dug it out and realized what it was. I bought it for the tuffs and box profiles and put those on my Predator LOL :nah.I.mean:

My recent JMC complete was off craigslist....it sat on there for over a week before I decided to call. "BMX bike body called JMC with parts $60"

Thought it was someone playing tricks....until I got there and the kid was selling his dads bike to get a newer dirt jumper. I told him, I'll give you a S&M complete, hardly ridden for this...he said no, $60 is what he needed to get something he had his eye on. I offered to sell it for him on ebay, but he didn't want to wait. "$60" Kept saying it over and over again like Johnny on Better Off Dead..."2 Dollars!"

Nope, no guilt here. These values aren't really real if you know what I mean. We don't have a KBB or any kind of firm pricing guide (not that KBB is perfect, but at least it's an idea of a given vehicle's value).

An item is worth what the market will offer. So the market wasn't there that day and you were--good for you! And it is the seller's responbility to figure out what an item is worth, not the buyer's (as far as the seller's asking price is concerned).

Had the seller put a higher value on the item, he or she would have done some research, added a reserve, and/or put the item in the best location with the proper woring and tags. Since he or she did not, they must be happy with the $80.

NOPE-not one bit. That's why when I sell on ebay I sell with a BIN or Best offer.

I went to Catholic school K through 12. I feel guilty pretty much 24-7.

cward,

You must be checking out the crowd here ...
Anyone who's been doing this for sometime has gotten good deals and bad deals.
Ebay is set up for people to get the highest bid.
Unless they put a reserve on it they get what they get.

Last time I felt guilty was when I got screwed on eBay !

Local deals rule ... I'm ready to do exclusively local deals only.

May I ask Sir have you ever gotten screwed on a deal ?
Unhonestly described item or damage hidden or not mentioned ?
Or something that was simply never shipped ?

Answer yes to the last 3 and come back let us know how you feel.

Rob

The deals all work out in the end. Sometimes you come up big, sometimes you overpay. Take it as a gift...

I'm with Nycet3, I have that Catholic guilt burnt into my very soul. Although I'm happy to get a deal now and again, I know being the highest bidder for many items means I've probably overpaid for my share of stuff, so it all equals out in the end, right? :StackinChips:

Actually, I was joking about the guilt. If someone puts something up for auction, and the market dictates in your favor, there you go.
I paid 30 buck for a set of crank bolt caps because I lost the set I sold before I could ship them. Seller had me by the jewels. Found a complete ET for $150 on cl. It all works out.

Feel guilty if you're a thief, sex offender, wife beater, murderer or child abuser.
If you get a good deal on a bike, feel lucky, then give someone else a deal.

To paraphrase the Surfers: it's better to regret having done something than having not done something.

(just adding levity)

Guilt was not a feeling I experienced when I bought a pair of 2nd gen profiles for 50 bucks. If any transaction takes place that both parties agree to,there is no reason to feel any guilt.

I have sold packages on ebay that end up costing me money. Now that sucks. Not so much anymore, had to school myself in the ways of the USPS.

I have never felt guilty about a winning bid.

My latest killer deal was for my Bobcat loader, a Tilt-Tach hyd. interface that allows bucket (or other implement) to tilt 15 degrees either way.

Retails for 2400 scored it for less than 600, and the paint is awesome, was only used once and stored indoors.

Word, psycho. That ET complete I bought for 150 sold for 1,800. That paid for our Cape Cod vacation a couple summers ago.
