Is it possible for a completely unstamped seat post to be something good?

I was taking apart a very early 1984 Pro Performer this morning and noticed that the laid back seat post has no markings on it whatsoever. Not even a minimum insertion mark. No decals either. I'm thinking it's just a generic post but I don't want to toss it if it could be something decent. Everything else on the bike is top notch and that's the only thing that makes me wonder. Kashi aero, dc mx1000 brakes & hinged seatpost clamp, dk stem, dx pedals, CW pro mustache bars...

"Good"? or "$$$"?
Of course it can be good. I have a NOS Team Cycle Laid back on my GT. 100 Percent Chromo. Beautiful and I will not part with it. Got it in a lot in the bag.
"$$$"? not so much.
So I am not sure what you are "getting at" here.

I'll tell you exactly what I'm getting at. I volunteer for an organization called Bikes for the World. They accept donated bicycles from the Washington DC metro area, process them and ship them to developing regions primarily in Africa, South/central America and the Caribbean islands. Less than 2% of the bicycles donated are instead sold to help fund the program. I am more or less the "bmx expert" of the group. I help to identify collectible parts and bikes bring them home and sell them. So yes, I am wondering if this post is worth some money, but really I just want to know what it is. If there's no way to identify it then there's really not much market for it. Stuff like this I really don't know what to do with. It wouldn't be ethical for me to keep it for myself, but if I give it back it will likely get thrown in the scrap metal pile.

most 84 and earlier GT bars and seatposts aren't stamped at all.

sounds like it's the original GT laidback. :OSThumbsUpPeace[1]:

Thanks! That's useful info, but it doesn't look like anything else on the bike is original. Anyone heard of THUN cranks?

Cool, I remember reading about that in one of your posts a few years back. But. without it being stamped, or marked it will not draw that much "interest" or $$$.
Like Philly said, it is prob original to the bike, but you will not see the kind of $$$ that you would see with a stamped one.
So, if it were me? send it along with the frame and fork, to whomever wins that. Same with OG unstamped bars (if you have them). that is where it/they belong. And it is a nice gesture to the new owner.

That's exactly what I was thinking... send it along with the frameset. The bars that came on it were CW pro mustache bars which will be sold separately. I'll try to come up with fair prices and offer it all up on here before going to ebay.

Shhhhhh Profile laybacks were unstamped also. Most of the sought after posts were not stamped with MIN insert lines.

I cleaned up the frame tonight. Very nice. Feb. 84 build date. That's got to be an early one. No stamp on the bologna cut.

Thun cranks were made by Ashtabula as I recall. Please check with Professor Sodbuster for confirmation. For some reason I was enveloped by a wave of avarice... the desire to acquire those struck me as the clear vision of the Thun advert with RL Osborn (wan't it?) tucked air on an SE arose in my mind stream. But, I'm going to reign it in and resist that. It's weird the effect this shit has on us.

Very good looking frame set, Paulie.

Maybe. Earlier I actually was thinking about why I thought it was RL. Cannot remember.
