I had two 12" home speakers in my VW square-back that would bump the Beasties...
One of my all time favorites bands and MCA seemed like a great person.

I just can't and don't want to fucking believe it. Not since Kurt have I felt this way. Ryan Dunn hit me hard but not like KC and MCA have. Hate to bring RD and KC into it but it's the last times I can remember feeling what I feel now. Something about this is way more pure though. I think it's the fact that I was pissed at Kurt and Ryan. MCA is the exact opposite. If there was ever a dude who was meant for the afterlife its my MCA. I feel like I lost a friend. A damn good one. Someone who I trusted implicitly. Sometimes things don't make sense. This never will.
Licensed to Ill was kind of a joke to most people. A gimmick created by Russel Simmons. Not until Paul's came out did most of the core group bond.
I remember being at a huge hardcore show in NYC in about 1990. "The Superbowl of Hardcore". It was at the Marquee I think. All the punks and hardcore kids were just standing around shooting the shit. In between bands, the DJ played "Shake Your Rump". THE MOST AMAZING THING HAPPENED! It was also the last thing I expected to happen. All the punk rock kids started dancing like they were at a hip hop show! The B-Boys could unify and reach across any boundary and any style. Much like the TCQ. I have never seen anything that brought the tribes together like the 'Boys. Magic.

Man that sucks, Im gonna miss him. Me and a couple of my friends used to imitate the Beastie Boys when we were kids. I would use a giant wooden fork as a guitar that my mom has hanging on her kitchen wall and we would jam to brass monkey, girls, fight for your right. It was so much fun. Everytime I hear the Beastie Boys it gives me good memories of being a kid. I also found an old memorex tape at my moms last night of the early punk days of the Beastie Boys. I listened to it all night last night building my schwinn. RIP Adam.

When you're in Atlanta with a van full of BMXers, a trailer full of bikes and 2,400 miles to Reno, there's only one song to kick off the trip righteously...

P.S. It also gets heavy rotation when switching drivers in Nashville, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, and then again in Reno, just for good measure.

Cain't nobody mess with Truly Odd for Vinyl! I have never seen the MCA record. How about some samples on here? I do have some rare Beastie Stuff but it's not early. Not even that hard to find really. the coolest thing I had was a pre-release copy of Check Your Head which I was blasting out of the PA at the big party house I lived in while in college. We were pumping it a month before it came out and people were on the tip. Bigtime. God only knows what happened to it.

Fuck, all this time I thought I was a real fan. What a disappointment after all these years to find out that I'm not.

Taken from Brooklynvegan:
The Beastie Boys are big Mets fans, and vice versa. So when clubhouse music gurus Justin Turner and Scott Hairston suggested that the Mets honor late band member Adam "MCA" Yauch with their walk-up music Friday night, the whole team jumped on board. Here's what they chose:
SS Ruben Tejada: "Intergalactic"
2B Daniel Murphy: "No Sleep Till Brooklyn"
3B David Wright: "Brass Monkey"
RF Lucas Duda: "The New Style"
LF Scott Hairston: "Root Down"
1B Ike Davis: "Fight For Your Right (To Party)"
CF Andres Torres: "So What'cha Want"
C Josh Thole: "Make Some Noise"
RHP Dillon Gee: "Body Movin'"
PH Vinny Rottino: "Paul Revere"

Re: Musicians (and celebs in general) taking themselves too seriously: Steve's interaction and his take on MCA is exactly how I would hope a personal encounter with any of my favorite musicians would impress upon me. The Beasties were huge and it's obvious how many people were touched by their music over the course of the past 30 years (think about that for a sec. 30 years!!). And never did any member make news simply for doing stupid stuff that more full of themselves celebs do. Being down to earth and just enjoying life is all I can hope and wish for any of my idols.
It sucks. It hurts to know he's gone. But I've learned from past losses of my musical heroes that we can always take solice in the fact that they've left behind an indelible legacy that will always be there to make you feel like it always did whenever one of their songs was heard.

Whilst not a fan to the same extent as most people here, I appreciate reading everyone's stories and the interview. Thanks. And to add the Lee's post, he was good enough to recognise a few inconsiderate things done when he was younger (like most of us) and apologised for them.
The one thing that has hit home is he was the same age as me when he was diagnosed. Time to get off my arse and do SOMETHING.

i couldn't find a youtube clip to post, but i did a remix for the Beastie Boys song "shake your rump" from off their "video anthology" DVD released in 2000.
in the late 90's early 2000's i lived right up the street from the Beastie's recording studio and record label "Grand Royal". i was also good friends with their DJ Mixmaster Mike and another buddy of mine ran the promotion dept.
long story short.... i remember the promotion homie calling me up telling me that he just made some acapellas and to come by, pick out one of these songs and do a remix. i ended up choosing 'shake your rump' and did a beat with my buddy DJ J.Rocc (of the Beat Junkies). i can remember the call when my homie called and said "yo!! the Boys dig your shit, it's made the DVD...come down here and do this paperwork!!!" man...i was SO stoked!! then seeing my name in the credits of a Beastie Boy project was a dream come true.
i can't remember if i've spent much time with MCA, other than meeting him, but my times hanging with Mike D and Mixmaster Mike are incredible!!

After seeing the B-Boys inducted into the R&R HOF tonight on HBO rerun, it was cryptic and kind of strained for them. Now we know why. If you see their speeches, King AdRock and Mike D did not mention MCA at all. They knew it was his farewell and were honoring him by giving absolutely no ambiguous BS. You can see it and feel it in them. I believe that is the reason they did not perform their own songs. Stand ins for all of them. Still amazing. They knew what was up. His letter that was folded like something we would all have in our wallets was busted out and read by Adrock. It looked so innocent in a way. The first people he thanks are Mike D. and King AdRock. It says so much more now. Something tells me that little letter will be legend.
PS- The Chili Peppers absolutely shine and a whole bunch of heart felt Peppers history flows like a river. Hilell's brother accepts his award. Moving to say the least if you know what you are seeing.
