Interesting how few XC-I's are around. Pretty much NEVER see them.

Who is holding?

The bicycle pedal museum on speedplay.com says they came out in 1981 and were quickly replaced by XC-2 with more blunt teeth. The XC-I might have been too gnarly for the youth. It attributes XC-II to 83. The dates seem off, can anyone confirm or deny?

I agree, youd think there are more out there. Didnt matter to me back in the day tho, cause I filed mine to a sharp point anyway.

Just Me Chillin' covered this years ago extensively. I had a vague recollection of him having a lot to say about it, but I am so faded, I can't remember so much from a few years back.

Like this... which is also cool:

Yeah I know where a few sets reside ....

I think 4 pairs --- 1 nos set 1 minty set and 2 rider sets

I did a similar iding thread (like the goose bits thread) about them yrs ago - covered the 3/1 and 2/2 body differences - I coulda swore it was here on OS and not V - it may have been lost yrs back when the servers were changed and some of the archives got lost along with many of our post counts and allot of obscure info --- I had some threads saved for a while and brought them back out but I have since lost info in hard drive crashes as well.

And yeah I'd say 81 is right for release, but the xc-1 style cages weren't around an entire yr - the stub teeth were already out in 82

Yep, me too. It's amazing that we find blunt pedals that have never been filed.

Oh let me add - I do sketch a tad from to time on time line - I may be off a yr forward or back on times .... But the end all on this is the fact they were showcased on the new (1st) kuwahara laser lite test in bmxa ---- they covered the fact they came with the new Suntour xc-1 pedal - so whatever yr that test was is the yr of origin - I'm pretty sure it was 81 (but of its 82 oh well shoot me in the face then why don'tcha)

I see I'm at odds with myself in the previous thread and age apparently ain't helping the matter much ....

gettin' old sux !

It was 82 (the laserlite test) I hunted for a set of xc1s a while ago for the Kuwahara 24, but gave up. They'd probably rip my vans to shreds anyway...

On the midschool gt I got recently it had Maxy cross cranks and pedals very similar to these only they aren't suntours or th vp knock offs my cages look more like the suntour but no hole in the end to get to the cap. But on them it looks like it has a number 1 on it and the letter pr1mo or so that's how it looked at first glance thought it said primo but after reading this thread I examined them closer so does anybody know what they could be? I only have an iPhone and no computer so can't upload pics at this time

Oh and thanks mc. --- remember though the print time before publication so they came out earlier in the yr then when they were touched upon .... Plus I vaguely remember someone saying that they knew who was riding the prototypes in late 81

Did Suntour make a hard anodized version of the XC-II pedal? I have a set that I've had for a while, and could never figure out why the body was grey instead of silver. It's definitely the original finish, and has the OG stickers.

That's what I thought when I first got them, but they don't clean up with metal polish.
