Shot Gun I.... yep, crazy dope seat. But what's the deal with the side drilled and non-side drilled versions?

Non-side drilled is earlier?

Please advise and drop science if you are able.

I have always thoughts that the drilled sides were earlier, a bit like the "shotgun II" from memory i think the early shotgun II's had no "texturing" on the saddle whereas the newer shotgun II's did (I hope that made sense.....lol)

Hmm. I think earlier probably.

This one with no holes in the side has two circled numbers... 12 and 79. Does that have any meaning?

Allot o Holes were first - they had major breakage issues - so they lessened the hole count .... I remember that round the time I was introduced to BMX with my first motomag - I swapped the post/saddle before even leaving the shop with my new bike - the choice was elina or shottie cuz they didn't carry kashi (and rumor was the shotties cracked real easy)

I'd love to find a mint blk one like the one shown with all the holes)

I had a holey one disintergrate on me half way through a race when i was a kid. I switched it to a SG2 which lasted a lot longer.

Yes, it does help, thanks... that confirms what I was suspecting, and what Grey was trying to tell me when I started looking into this... which is that either both models overlapped or the more holes was actually later.

Thanks again Mongoosefs1

I can see the logic on that ... Considering the vent hole days (people drilling every part to lighten loads) came in around 80/81 .... They could've added more holes then, which also would coincide with the first variation of the SGII that also had the breakage issues (before switching to the less holes and speed lines version)

My guesstimate is purely memory. (never actually tried to research time line with them) as far back as I remember them it was always the 100 hole version, the aero style seats were intro'd shortly after and that was that, never really looked back to the older style seats afterwards - so none of my builds today would call for'em (I just want a blk 100 hole version for the collection cuz they look so bad-ass)

Thanks - now I have more homework....

It's funny Steve, you bringing up these detail threads - it's like your tapped into my head.

I have if you haven't noticed, guess 12yrs into this and the fact repop is just so big now - I just really wanna hone on the facts and undefined gen. changes and where they would actually fall on time lines - I know, I don't know enough, never can but I was in recent months taking in subtle details and starting to research stuffs ....

Like this issue or say that of Uni seats (decal changes / design upgrades) or say grips like Oakley f-1 with raised letters as opposed to the stamped or a difference I had never noticed, like KKT lightning variations ---- I had never noticed (maybe in part because like this saddle it wasn't one of the bits I normally chased or familiarized with because I simply didn't need them.) sunshine hubs or different ESP stem caps and logos etcetera etcetera etcetera

Those subtle details that never went notarized or undocumented - I say it's funny cuz it's where my heads been in recent months these are pics I have been taking for weeks - now that stash is finally dwindling I gotta do what I can while I can - I just wanna know as much fact as I can, I wanna try accumulating as fact as we can.

Yeah, this is the kind of rarified stuff that I like to read. Always interesting to go deep into it. Scrutinize the minutia. It's fun.
