I am seriously considering selling off most of my collection (except my GT 26, a few frame sets and unobtanium stuff) to fund a film I'm making.
Nothing super rare. I figure it will be a lot of fun finding stuff again. Am I out of my mind? Has anyone ever done it, just to start hunting again?

I am at the tail end of selling off about 80% of what I had. The funds are being used to build a street rod.

Yes, you are out of your mind. But that's what makes you, well... you.

And stop biting my threads. This one's just like mine (except for the GT 26, the unobtanium, and the film making stuff).

Ok... except for the selling a bunch of stuff off, it's nothing like my thread.

no, I have never completely sold all my stuff, mostly sell when I get tired of stuff or a friend needs a part exc. thing I have found is that once it is sold, generally if you want it back it costs more.. and may not even be available.. I have been searching for a chrome Schwinn sx1000 that I sold nearly 6 years ago.. sold it for 65 bucks? I have not seen one for sale since

i sold off a few bikes and some parts last year when i bought the coronet. i was very selective about what i let go.

i'm glad i didn't sell more of it as i was burned out a bit and i really wanted a nice car and was considering selling most of it.

I have sold a few things, one was an 84 TA to help fund a trip to Disney.

From my Gi Joe collection, never did sell anything. Figured it was not collected to make a profit, just picked it up because I liked it as a kid.

Probably, my minor BMX collection is the same.

I've been selling off a lot of my bikes and parts since last fall. I've since decided to sell off everything except a few that are the most important to me and step away for a while so I can finish repairs to the house and then start playing with my cars again.

I have absolutely no intention of getting out. Just figured I could always collect again.

as a frequent garage/auction/flea market kind of dude the only caution I would give is that collecting has changed a bit in the last 2 years.. even the guys that have nothing to do with BMX think the stuff is worth a fortune and will be eager to tell "you" that. No more 30 dollar specials for the most part. Thant said I have sold around 15 bikes total and only truly regret selling one (the sx 1000). I have never shut my eyes on the collecting "game" in 8 years and this has been one thing that has gotten worse.. the not know nothing know it alls ;-)

i have sold off everything twice in the last six years and started over twice for some of the same reasons...part of the fun?

I have lost, sold, or given away everything I ever had regarding BMX. I still remember it all fondly.

I've been thinking a lot lately of liquidating my five cruisers. I keep thinking "If I sell them, will I miss them, and want some or all of them back?"

They sit on a shelf day in day out. The last time I rode one was about six months ago. I occasionally go out into the garage to gaze at them, but you know, I really dont think I would miss them.

The money could be put to some other use(s) :)

I had a good night's sleep. Woke up having come to my senses. Seems I had forgotten golden rule numero uno: Never spend your own money making a film.

I have contemplated selling everything but my SE Racing stuff since most of my bikes are just as old as me and to fund 2 car projects that I haven't even looked at in 3+ years. I started the thin out and stopped...I ended up selling future projects and 'restickered' bikes that didn't fit into my 'anal retentive' collection.

National Pro Long (restickered)
2 Phaze 1's (1 was restickered, other was all OG)
84 GT Team Series (restickered)
85 JMC Shadow (All OG but I never rode it enough to enjoy it and I bet it will look nice at the Whittier show this year)

What really stopped me was the thought of never seeing/getting them back after releasing them...thoughts of a idiot refinishing them...thoughts of them being made into a color coordinated clown bike.
