Sounds like a cool project. I passed on an all og pro star bout 6 yrs ago for $2k. The most biggest mistake ive made collecting. At the time i was unaware that not many og completes existed.
I must be crazy...

Gotta ask -- what was specific about the BMX Action one? Hutch did change the overall parts selection a bit over the course of time that it was available. Is the test bike not an exact factory build list?

There's a original deep h stem on the museum for sale, it's a good starting point....

The test bike had Oakley b1-b grips instead of Hutch grips, they used an ACS seat/seat post combo in the ad but stated they were going to change it to an Elina Turbo seat/Hutch seat post combo, Carlisle agressor r/a tires, some weird prototype looking stem that was a huge failure so I'm assuming that is when they switched to the deep H stem, and Sun rims instead of Araya's.

And the BMXA bike was not "BLINGED" out it had red/white B1B's and black rims and a few other non chrome parts that I cannot remember.

That's the route I was thinking about going. I just wouldn't be able to replicate that stem lol.

looks good j. quite a "ballsy" project. by that, i mean that, to do it "right", it will be quite a job.
now send it off to have it all layered in a super thick coat of powder and put some incorrect decals on it.
i jest, i jest!
good luck with your project!

LOL, it's staying as is for sure! The hard part about the whole project is finding the seat, tires, and cranks. Then the 2nd bad part is forking out the money for said parts.

Ok, so I've seen a few variations of the Pro Star, early and late I'm assuming. The latest was in a Dec of 84' which had the black parts you mentioned 3rdgear. I guess the seat clamp was magnesium, black Pro or Tuf Neck chain ring, and the rest was Hutch. Should I go this route since mine is a later Pro Star...

Who's bike was it? Any pics anywhere? I'm going to go with just regular comp 3's since I have seen a few Pro Stars with them. They look better than the Hutch tires anyway. I could always put 3rd gen Profiles as "the replacement cranks" on it since the Aerospeeds were prone to breakage anyway.

Making a little progress, og pedals, og flight sprocket, and og flight cranks for now. I'll switch out the sprocket for the correct setup later. I need og cages though too....

I'm not one of those "show build guys". I'm not a fan of polishing, over bling or anything or person that kind of shows off
Yeah, however a Pro Star is straight pimpin!
Something about it being "the" most expensive bike bitd that still makes me say "damn"
I never get tired of looking at them. In my neighborhood, Hutch was a mail order thing as we were a lower to lower middle class town. Even back then it was like a Picasso on two bicycle wheels.
I say do it and show us the pics!

The ONLY things that will be polished will be the brake and lever. I HATE the look of chromed aluminum so those parts will be polished. I may polish the 2-n-1 and the stem if I can't find decent chrome ones, but that will be the extent of it. The frame and fork haven't arrived, they are getting shipped out Friday I believe so I should have some pics soon!
Well I guess u'll be polishing the seat clamp, stem, hoops, hubs and tange 125 h/s then too, cuz they're all chromed aluminum - whew hope your forearms are ready !
