After bugging and harassing a good friend of mine about this bike, I finally took it home today! He found this at a bicycle swap no more then 10minutes away from my house. I got there late but I am glad that he got it instead of someone else. This thing is beautiful!! Loaded with some nice parts too! Here is a breakdown!

Nishiki F&F
Gold Araya 7x hoops laced to gold shimano cassette hubs
MINT fat/skinny Yellow Label Comp 3 tires
D/C gold two piece seatpost clamp
Viscount MX seat in black
OGK grips
Tuf Neck knockoff stem
Beautiful Alloy V-bars (win or ??)
Shimano Tourney brakeset
Shimano DX pedals
Shimano touney 175mm drive side crank
170mm Super Maxy non-drive side in silver

I didn't even get a chance to clean it up yet. HUGE thanks to Greg for putting up with my harassing and finally allowing me to have it!

Now the bad part....i am stealing some of the parts off this to help build another bike...Trevor will be getting the left overs...no hate mail please. :)

Nobody likes it....i know...parting out a survivor is wrong...
but its going to good use...pedals, seatpost clamp, wheels, tires and brakes are being taken off...the rest will stay put.

:Idunno:

I like it. Cool to see a less popular whip just for documentation's sake. So is that really a survivor? Surely the tires were added more recently? It is pretty decked out considering the frame set is sort of obscure.

Werent nisiki just stickered up redlines sold in other countries ?

It looks like a mx-II/proline hybrid --- sad to see such a nice survivor parted to be honest -- those parts aren't that hard to muster up, if need be in my opinion .

No they have differences. Different serial numbers, Nishikis have a notch in the gussett as well. Not sure about the geometry. I always assumed they were made in the same factory as the Redlines though.

My guess with the parts selection...i would say 1981/82?

This is the way it was found at the swap meet. I think other then the non-drive side crank arm, this is the way it was born.

I know Trevor had one of these as a kid...maybe he can chime in on what his had BITD. I am still contemplating on taking parts off...maybe switch the pedals out, the tires out since they almost look new compared to those parts I have on my Quadangle, then seeing if Trevor wants it or ill just keep it. You guys know I would hate to steal parts off of it, but these parts will be going on something ever better...not just flipping it to make money and part out a true killer survivor. :nah.I.mean:

I hate to say it but I don't think you should part it. The tires are the best thing on the bike IMHO so maybe just switch out with another set of the same. Wouldn't be a survivor then but it wouldn't bother me as much. I love all the gold anno. I would sell it whole and take the cash and buy the parts you need. Just a suggestion. It's just very unique. That's why I would save it.

Ah nice Jon. I didn't know you were after that one.
The pedals, wheels and tires are definitely stand out parts on there. But it also looks great as is.

I don't really care what you do with it. Just document it as much as possible as it sits. :)
I think I know what bike is getting these parts :)

I remember these being advertised in the mags BITD. I had a 12 speed Nishiki for years very very well made bike.

Are you sure thats a knock off Tuf Neck? or an early unstamped one?

It has a chrome-like quill....i am gonna take it apart to clean it. ill shoot some pics of the parts as I clean them. I am 99.9% sure that its a knock off....looks cheap...but i might be wrong! :)

So then it won't be too hard for Trevor to find replacements then.... :comedy:

I think Ken C had some good info posted somewhere about Nishiki "mxii" framesets. My memory is crappola these days, but I think it had something to do with the manufacturing plant furnishing Nishiki with redline's designs, and also making available the same materials.
My Nishiki has the exact molybdenum tubing sticker that my redline MXII had.
I had wanted a Nishiki since I saw one for the first time...because I am a redline freak and dug the connections.

Does anyone have the info that more explicitly details the story of the genesis of these Nishiki frames? It's a good read.
