Very impressive first effort, Andy. It amazes me you guys did all this before photoshop, indesign, quark etc. I don't think most people think at all about what goes into the look we see in the article above.

And this also intensifies my curiosity with regard to the question that's been eating at me... "should text columns always be justified?" I see in the iterview the answer is yes, but in the bike profile left margin alignment suffices. Hmmm.

    great stuff, Mcam.

My usual refrain: please add those to the data base

Hm. Yeah, maybe just a bit less white. The red tires could be fine... black always works though, that's a given.

The date is bound to be circa turn of the 90's though right? Uni turbo was definitely still in the magazine's bike shop ads at that point. I just think that is a good junior/expert seat choice.

Keeping with the "expert" theme... I think maintaining more "junior" size parts but dialing in color. I think Pro Series cranks are a little too burly for this expert frame. I'm gonna say maybe keep the cranks (not sure on era correctness) or find some one piecers maybe, but put black pedals... maybe Shimano SX... something with a smaller profile.

And it needs black. Black seat (how about Uni Turbo), black grips. The tires will probably be fine in red once you get some more black on the bike in general. Are the mohawk hubs a little late for that? Maybe, maybe not... but I doubt you want to go to the expense of dropping total rebuild bucks into that, so maybe leave that for now.

I'd go for a black or maybe red seat clamp. Probably black though at this point the only ano'd part is the red chain wheel... so a red seat clamp could work. But I'd actually look for a black GT or DK clamp and even consider putting a black chain wheel on... letting the only red come from the bike graphics, pads and tires.

Alloy powerlite expert or jr. bars could be good... just natural aluminum, no color.

A pitbull or bulldog breakset my be a bit more era.. I don't know. That's not really an issue in some sense.

So that's my thoughts on sort of a complete rework. An abbreviated and probably more than ample approach could be to just simply add a black uni turbo and some black pedals and grips. Finish. I just think it would visually pop a bit more to lose some white and add some black.

p.s. look at the freakin' ice chunks on the ground. It's practically the middle of March! Reminds of being at school in Madison. Winter is WAY too long at that latitude.

yeah, I have a feeling both those signs are maybe directed a pen poachers. I was thinking it might say "keep your hands off my pens".

The bike drawing... totally dig it. Andy Jenkins there. I was raving about that draftsman style of realism he used in the Freestylin' bike tests earlier in the shout box. Really cool.
