My insane Hutch Trick Star from BITD
Posted 16 Feb 2012
I thought these pics were gone forever, then a box from my mom shows up in the mail yesterday. I'm thinking this was around 85-86. It was before 48 spoke wheels I know that.
I've always been a big guy and graceful as an ox. 36 hole wheels would bend and mags were too flexy. So I did what any bike shop tech nerd would do..I drilled a hole between every hole on my wheels and made some 72 spoke monsters!
Also check out the low mounted centerpull brake. This was before 990's. I remember I used two aluminum tops from a Greenfeild kickstand sandwiched together as a brake bridge. I drilled a hole in the BB and ran a barrel adjuster there..The front drum brake was mushy, but would lock up like crazy.
I'm pretty sure I know where these wheels are..maybe I need to build this one again. Enjoy! -
