Topics I've Started

  1. My Mongoose before I owned it.

    Posted 10 May 2013

I used to hang around my sponsors shop every day after school and saturday mornings. My mates and I just hung out and rode around a bit out front. Like a lot of us did bitd.
A new guy came in to manage the shop. His name was Mark Bradley. Before our shop he was a welder for Competition Developments, the builder of Quicksilver bicycles.
Mark was the head welder and designer. He was always making one offs during lunch break. His frames are very desirable in OZ today.
Mark came in one day and asked myself and my buddy, Dean, if we wanted some old frames he had from his riding days. Turned out Mark was one of the first Factory Mongoose riders in OZ. He rode for them as well as working for CD (Quicksilver).
So my mate dean got two BBR (his own designs) frames and I scored this Mongoose frame and some parts. I still have everything.
Someone posted a pic on an Oz forum last week and It blew me away. I have this book and never noticed this before.
Here is Mark riding my motomag frame in his factory Mongoose gear in roughly 1977 or 78.
I still haven't spoken to Mark since 1983 but I hope one day we can catch up.
Anyway, I was bored today so wrote this up.
    Thanks.

  2. My new parts hauler.

    Posted 25 Feb 2013

My old ute (pickup) was getting tired and my wife found this for sale last weekend.
I went for a look on Saturday and picked it up lunchtime time today (Monday)
It is the pickup version of my wifes car !
It's a GM built v6 auto. Model name VZ Commodore Storm.
    cheers
    Glenn.

  3. New wheels on my Stroker

    Posted 11 Nov 2012

So i got these wheels off a mate locally for a great price. I totally rebuilt both hubs with NOS Shimano parts and they roll so smooth now. I like the look better now. Mind you it weighs about 50 pounds now!
What do you think? I think I'm almost happy with it now. The bars still bug me though?

  4. New Project. DB Senior Pro.

    Posted 15 Sep 2012

I'm currently moving house so it may be a while but here it is.
I picked up this Senior Pro locally which made life easier. There's not a lot around here.
It's in fair shape but will need some work. #1 problem is the stuck steel seatpost.
Also the rust isn't bad but will need some TLC.
I have an MCS stem and Vbars for it and will use my Shimano 600 cranks too.
Wheels are the only question at this time. I have some early Tuff II's and being a Tuff guy I will probably use them.
I also scored a NOS Kashimax MX seat from Andy Diamond too. All parts will be gold or yellow. I've never done a yellow/gold theme before so all help welcomed.
I never build "spec" bikes so it should be interesting to see how it turns out.
One thing that amazed me was the weight of a DB frame. Being a 'goose fan and 70's fan these things are featherweights compared to them.
    Anywho..

  5. Diamond Back Senior Pro score.

    Posted 10 May 2012

I took a punt on a local FB sale site a few months back. A guy told me he had some old school parts and needed them gone.
I paid him a visit this afternoon and came home with this and some parts including an alloy hubbed Tuff. Considering the size of my town I'm happy and it was 30 seconds up the road from work.
