Collections lost to natural disasters
Posted 14 Nov 2012
I was just watching some Sandy programming last night and wondered if any collectors were affected. What about during Katrina or last years east coastal flooding? Or other tragic events?
It made me remember a few years back when the Cali. wildfires took out a collection, and the thought just popped. Do the pictures of this collection pre and post still exist?
Now, I know the thought of a BMX bike is completely insignificant in relation to the personal and larger losses, but I can't help and wonder. -
Cleaning-up a survivor??
Posted 5 Dec 2011
I am in the process of cleaning/re-greasing 2 amazing cond. dk. blue 79 looptail Quad's, complete survivor bikes. I have cleaned up the stems and seat clamps, I am curious as to the acceptable clean up of the black oxide nuts and bolts. 1 of the bikes the bolts are completely reddish brown...really nasty/ugly. If i try to clean them they will come out bare metal.
What is acceptable in this case?? I can't see re-plating, but also can't see using em' as is or cleaned. Is it acceptable to use new hardware or old patina hardware I have laying around.
My dilemma is, if I use others that I have it is no longer THE original hardware. So, why not just use new hardware and let it age naturally once installed???
Is it OK to replace ANY of the hardware on a complete survivor. Axle nuts and washers included? -
Graphite Tuff Campy question
Posted 28 Jul 2011
Hey guys I didn't need these, but bought them cause I hate to see rare stuff incomplete or as orphans. Paid too much too!!!!!
Got a set of 2nd gen Campy Hubbed Graphites in mint cond. BUT someone stripped ALL the stuff out of the rear hub. Only thing left are the inner races/cups. I know there are places to get the parts. Need direction, parts can be Campy clones as long as they look right on.
OR if anyone has any parts maybe I can piece them together with the help of several of you guys.
Any help is greatly appreciated. -
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO.....

The OM's roof to pool Jumping looptail Quad? I was just going through an old BMXA and saw that pic again. That frame has the widest loop I have ever seen on any BMX bike.
I know Ben Joy un-earthed this frame back around 2000 and it had some chlorine accelerated corrosion problems. Last I remember I think Rod Miles did some work on it to keep it from diappearing. Then Ben sold it.
Where is it now, would hate to think it has changed hands so often that it's heritage has been forgotten or lost.
