New old motorcycle
Posted 21 Mar 2013
Ok here it is! I had sold my 78 and 99 Harley to get caught up on some bills and hopefully have enough to get another bike. Once I took care of business. I bought a 67 Econoline van and started looking for an old Harley. The search was not going well. Then a good friend of mine's dog got hurt. He needed an operation and my buddy didn't have the cash. The dog is like his son so I stepped up with the loot. He put up his Harley as collateral so no worries on getting paid back. Except the day after I flowed him the cash I got a call about this bike. I had exactly zero left in the Harley fund. So the shed opened up and luckily all the stuff went to great guys I respect. Made it a little easier!
It started life as a San Francisco police bike like a lot of custom machines did around here. At some point it was sold at an auction and then customized. The frame was molded but not cut or raked. I wish I had the story on the tank but as of now it's a mystery. It is signed but I don't recognize the artist. I'll ask around and see if any of the grey beards know him. The original owner is a friend of the guy I bought it from so I'm hoping to get a chance to talk to him at some point. The motor was rebuilt by a great shop in 1985. It was kept stock with .20 over pistons and no funky go fast stuff. It does run a Mikuni carb, unusual but it works great. A little after that it was covered up in the garage and forgotten about. The last owner is a mechanic by trade and collects, restores and rides high end vintage italian road bikes for fun. He has a few bikes worth way more than this Harley! He is meticulous and went about getting the Harley back on the road in his usual manner. He kept all receipts as well as all the packaging from every part he replaced. The rear fender was replaced as the original had been damaged in storage. I usually hate front fenders on the rear of a custom but this one works and will probably stay. It originally had 4" over forks but they were pitted and changed to what seems to be under stock. I'll be going back to the extended forks. No rake and extended forks is a very Bay Area custom look. The seat will be changed asap. I have a stash of vintage solo seats and p-pads. This thing runs great and the rear juice drum is the most effective drum brake I've ever used. Good power and feel. Surprising to say the least. Anyway those are the basics. I love this thing!

Mini class at next years show??
Posted 14 Jun 2012
The mini builds over the last couple of years have really been incredible. I'm not sure if it's because more of us have kids now or we just love the trickness of the little bikes. So how would everybody feel about a mini class for next year? I would hate to have only a couple bikes show up. Is it worth it? -

BMX Society Gathering Sponsorship help call out to all members and lurkers!
Posted 14 Oct 2011
Believe it or not the BMX Society's annual Reunion & Show planning has begun for 2012! The plan is to bring you guys the biggest and best old school BMX culture event on the planet. Attendance has been great, the bikes have been beyond spectacular, coverage in the media gets better every year but the one thing we really need for 2012 is sponsors! So I'm issuing a call to all the brothers and sisters of BMX Society to help out. If you have any connections with companies small, large or in between that might be interested in being part of a great event please pm and let's talk. We need everything from raffle prizes ( I know you guys were bummed we didn't do one last year) to premier sponsors who want to cover the place with banners and really get their name out at the event. Even if it's a long shot let me know your idea and let's see what we can make happen. Thanks in advance for supporting the site and the event.
I wanted to take a second to give a big thanks to Oakley who came through last year and gave us some great prizes and support to make the show even better. I know our members are very loyal to the companies that support BMX Society. Make sure to put Oakley on that list.
Thanks again!
