  3. Baumgartner's Free Fall

    Posted 16 Oct 2012

Nobody is talking 'bout this around here? Wow... I figured you boyz would be discussing this one... Kind of "falls" into the extreme sports/Evel Knievel/Big Air kind of stuff to me.

I've been a huge fan of Joseph Kittinger since I was a kid... This Baumgartner dude has huge balls to have gone after his record IMO. He definitely smashed it by altitude, but was around 10 seconds shy of the overall freefall time set by Kissinger... Blamed it on a foggy helmet lense or something... Almost 4:20 in freefall. Number sounds suspicious to me... Haha!

Baumgartner did this drawing in 1975 when he was 4 years old. Nice to see a dude follow his dream to the max!

As we head into the final playoffs (so to speak), I am curious about how members here feel about the race.

General watercooler talk this morning suggests that quite a few people think Mittens did better last night than expected and that Obama was less than stellar.

Others say Mittens blew his load too quick and that Obama is simply playing rope and dope, while saving his crushing blows for the final rounds. :Idunno:
  5. 1965 Schwinn Stingray Score

    Posted 31 Dec 2011

About 2 hours ago, my wife and I were walking the dog and we passed a neighbor's house at the end of our street. The garage door was open and the owner was sort of putzing around and cleaning up some stuff. I noticed he had this sweet old blue Stingray sitting there along with a bunch of other interesting vintage looking things. It appeared to me that he was sort of a collector kind of guy.

I said Hello and asked if he was interested in selling the old Stingray. Without any hesitation, he said, "Sure. What would you want to offer me for it?"

While my wife waited at the end of the driveway, I walked up and took a closer look at the bike. I instantly knew it was very nice. Long story longer, we made a deal. Basically, for the price of a decent set of Motomags, I agreed to buy it.

The guy has had it since he was a kid. He even included the original sales receipt, owner's manual and lock combination/sales slip! Every single thing on this Sting is 100% completely original. As you can see from the pics, he obviously took very good care of it.

After making the deal, we went home and I got him the cash. When I went back to pick it up, he said, "I filled the tires with air for you, so you can ride it home." Which is exactly what I did. I even popped a couple wheelies! The damn bike rides smooth as butter and feels like stepping back in time. Unbelievable...

Needless to say, I am extremely stoked about this bike. 2011 has ended very nicely for this old boy. :)
