  1. 1988 GT Performer

    Posted 17 Apr 2011

I have taken some time off and built a new 20' X 24' garage for my Bikes and 1972 Nova but it was time to get back to some fun. I replaced alot of black parts on my GT and I think it looks better. The frame, froks, bars, stem, Gyro, sproket, and brakes are original paint and decals. New white parts are:

    Viscount Dominator seat
    GT A'ME grips
    VP 565 pedals
    white brake pads
    Skyway Tuff wheel II's
    Vancom GT tires

I will have to get new axle pegs because my white GT's are 26t and the Skyway mags are 24t I guess. The Vancom GT tires keep this bike a rider for me. I can't just build one, lean it up in the corner and look at it. They were built to ride and thats what i'm going to do right now. Later guys.

  2. 5 bucks at a yard sale

    Posted 17 Apr 2010

I picked this up today at a yard sale for 5 bucks. Its a Ross Snapper. I almost passed on it but I noticed it had a mesinger seat and ashtabula stem. I like the heavy gage spoke's and it has shimano hubs. The rear is a shimano coaster type B. I pulled the ashtabula stem and it is date coded 78 so this Ross might be a 1978 but I really don't know for sure. Anyone know how to check? Anyone know anything about Ross from this era, like where they were made? It has the original bike shop sticker on it "Burtonsville Cycle" in Burtonsville MD. The original owner that sold it to me said he used to ride it everywhere in New York growing up as a kid. I don't know what I going to do with it yet, but I don't regret picking it up. Any ideas? Thank you.

  5. 76' Mongoose question & my first post

    Posted 23 Aug 2009

Hello everyone, i have been reading posts on here for year or so but this is my first post. I am 37, married, and a father of two boys that could rip the horns off satan. They are hell on wheels trust me. I went for years wondering why I could not let go of BMX/Freestyle. My wife gave up on me growing up and now helps me look for old bikes at yard sales and flea markets. Reading all your posts over time have made me realize I am not strange or maybe we all are and I just joined the club, whatever. So I just wanted to say that it is an honor to be here with all of you and I will try not to make an ass out of myself. But remember I'm 37 and still think about BMX bikes every day so good luck  . Ok so my bikes are a 1984 Schwinn Predator that I raced as a kid, a 1988 GT Performer, a 1988 Mongoose M1, and a 1976 Mongoose complete with motomags that I have been restoring. The nickle frame is looking much better after I read that polishing post with mothers mag & aluminum polish (Thank you Mongoosedrummer). So here is my question: I just received my stickers from BMX Products INC. and the kit has a choice of "CROME MOLY Mfd. in USA" or "CROME MOLY Mfd. in USA by RECO Inc.". My bike is a CH6 which is August 1976. So should I go RECO or No RECO? That is the question. Thank you for any help.
