Mel Stoutsenberger - History of BMX photos (the Mel Thread)

Recommended Posts

I thought the same, it looks just like the bike Thom rode, but Thom sees the subtle differences that make it his or not. Interesting.

mel yes i remember the 70's film made at yarnell.

i have a copy of the film. we need to spend some time. it wasn't really a premier showing, it was the N.B.A. yearly awards ceremonies. it was held up at

the ODYESSY

the RICK'S team seemed to cause a problem :naughty: of some kind and was escorted out of the place before the awards were given out.

BAD BOYS, BAD BOYS, BAD BOYS OF BMX WHAT YOU GONNA DO WHEN THEY KICK ASS ON YOU.

HA HA HA

BADGES ....... WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BADGES

I was watching that awhile back and although the music is cheesey 70's porn there is some REALLY cool footage, mostly Yarnell but I think some of it is a Randall Ranch too. There is a nice nano-second of a very muddy visorless Lund flashing a peace sign.

The duct tape helped hold my shoes to the pedals. As you can see it wasn't working very well that day.

This is my good friend Bill Ford. Bill and I grew up together in Canoga Park and rode with Ronnie Haase on a daily basis. Bill was a strong rider who favored down hills over flat track riding but oddly enough preferred watching the sport of Flat Track over Motocross and was a big Mert Lawill fan. One night he and I stayed up late and built a 26 cruiser bike for flat track style racing and took it over to the local school yard. They had painted a large section of the asphalt that was slippery to bicycle tires and we spent hours getting sideways for as long as we could hold it. Bill still rides thumpers when ever he can find the time.

Another Canoga local and good bud, Butch Baum, will be racing this Month at Mammoth Mountain with the hopes of retaining his first place senior division victory of '06. Butch will be riding his new KTM.

Man I bet those bikes were like Sherman tanks when landed on the ground! I had a Black Widow mono-shock frame in 79-80 with steel Femco's and it fell like a rock!

Thats the one Thom! Mark gave me a small copy of that one that I used to carry around in my wallet for special times, like when your cranium would slightly plump. Everyone fell victum of this section - some of the worst bites I've ever seen.

These are great Kiel Photos you have Thom, please keep scanning and posting!

yeah yeah, I guess the pics show, I like to walk on the wild side. I got good @ picking myself up and dusting myself off after a limb check...you know this moves that moves.

I'm not in denial, I was a crasher. Even did a big endo down Bonzai I don't remember!

Reilly I'll try to scan that thing I have from the ORIGINAL Malibu. Remember, STOUSE, Andy Kenny was the announcer, and "BITE OF THE NIGHT"?

ya ya it's dog walking time, later.
