carbizguy
1986(?) Privateer carbon fiber mini, only one ever made. Featured in BMX Plus or Super BMX following a Mini Shootout/head to head article. I would love to include a scan of the article, but I can't find it. The tubes are hand spun carbon fiber glued and pressed into alloy lugs, drops and headtube. The frame weighs just under 40 ounces and cost PeddlePower over a grand to manufacture. This has never been posted anywhere, and unless you have that magazine or hung out in my garage you've never seen any mini like this before. Hope you like it, I've always wanted to build this like it's shown in the magazine so if anyone has it or knows the month/year please contact me. Thanks! dubplatestyle
hector...great article! not only does it have the carbon-fiber privateer, gary houseman's free agent but it also has cyclecraft's "mini" w/ the titanium forks! a few months ago i acquired one for my niece, but didn't have a clue what direction to take it in....'87 is a little out of my element. lol speaking of houseman, did you notice rich "rocket" houseman has joined the "society"? coming soon....pics of his "old ride" w/ gold plated parts! lboorse2
That shootout article is priceless Hector. I love that Cyclecraft mini. Did CC make those in-house? I assume they did, but always wondered why the dropout on their mini's were different than their other models.
jmc/ace
Before JMC built "mini" frames little kids rode bikes similar to this: *1977 JMC "short" *Matthews fork 1st gen *DG mini bars (alloy) *24 hole Fiamme sew up rims radial lace front, cross-skip radial lace rear *48 hole Phil Wood BMX hubs *Dura-ace cranks (drilled) *Weinmann caliper (drilled) *Plastic seat (drilled) mounted directly to frame seat tube (no seat post clamp) *Union pedals *Grab-On grips *JMC Pit Stand (optional)
J.T.
1976 Steve Skibel was on the new DG BMX team with Stu Thomsen and Jeff Bottema. Steve was a pint sized mega fast racer and with the help of his father Steve Sr. they combined efforts on building "mini" sized bike and parts to allow Steve to have the edge on his competition. Introducing euro bottom brackets, alloy cranks, caliper brakes they got a bike below 20 pounds. The February Bicycle Motocross magazine featured Steve on the cover and his trusty mount. Steve is the youngest rider ever to be on the cover of the mighty Bicycle Motocross Action. The brand new DG Super Pro Junior frame features the early mini fork that has drilled vs. stamped DG dropouts. This frame features a built-in seat post clamp to save weight. The Dia-Compe brake lever and caliper have been drilled to save weight also. Combining the Sugino alloy cranks, Stronglight alloy headset and bottom bracket, then Campy track hubs makes for one fast machine weighing in at 19 pounds! Myke Landis was another DG racer and his Dad modified the rear dropout to include another allowing for a rear geometry that suited Myke better. Click here for a video presentation Hope you all enjoy another historical ride from the cover of Bicycle Motocross Action. VEHICLE Frame - DG Super Pro Mini with dual rear drop outs, one of a kind (original DG stickers) Fork - DG mini with drilled fork tabs vs. stamped (original DG stickers) Stem - DG / Powerlite (DG advertised once but didn't produce) Bars - DG mini Grips - DG blue, NOS Headset - Stronglight alloy Rims - Araya 7b Hubs - Campagnolo high flange track, NOS Freewheel - Shimano, NOS Front Tire - Kenda diamond tread 20 x 1.75, NOS Rear Tire - Kenda diamond tread 20 x 1.75, NOS Caliper - Dia-Compe 890, drilled for lightness, NOS Brake Lever - Dia-Compe, drilled for lightness, NOS Brake pads - Mathauser finned Chain - Regina, NOS Chain ring - Sugino 42 teeth, drilled for lightness Cranks - Sugino 171's, NOS Bottom Bracket - Stronglight alloy Pedals - Bob Reedy Seat - Leather, NOS Seat post - DG, 4 inches for lightness Seat post clamp - Built-in Padset - DG original Plate - Rectangle 103x

ToddH
1990 Badd & company one of 10 made, I had 2 of them. One with euro bb went to Bellingham Washington and one is still with my son. He races on this lean mean machine! When i say 1 of 10 made, they only made 10 excalibur (model) with b&e who was making it for system cycles - Still Badd. ""Unfortunately for Bruce Goin, the tide was shifting in the sport, and 'rider-owned' companies like S&M were quickly pulling ahead. It was an era where having a brown S&M Holmes was far more respectable than having a chrome Badd, even though the two bikes were built side-by-side in B&E's weld shop. An attempt to create a unique new set of frames ended in failure - those frames, by the way, were sold for $59.00 each by System Cycle under the brand name 'Excalibur' - and Bruce decided to withdraw from the business. He sold his stock of frames to a variety of people. The 2B "10th Frame", if I recall correctly, was a painted Badd XL that saw a lot of action at dirt jumping contests. In any event, 'Badd & Company' was assumed to be gone forever, yet another victim of our sport's fickle tastes." the painted one (pro sized) (not mine) one of 10 My 2 when i had both of them in my possession at the time. Notice one is euro and one is american BB
