This is my un-educated guess based on scrutinizing old magazines: a roughly 78 release for 7c perhaps. Don't take that as the last word by any means.

I thought we had an Araya time line. Can't find it.

i found this in a thread from 2005...

:18: i see sandy reading this so this should be good for education class corecct me if im wrong.

the first bmx wheels were steel the alloy be it the weinnmen or arays came in the early 70's

the araya had 7b's the bubbles 72??

the 7c's the first box style because the b's were folding to fast or out dated bye 74or 75

the aray 7x were the comon rim in the early to late 70's all the way til today

there are several styles of wheels 7b's 7c's 7x's 7l's 7n for narrow aero arays

20 1/38 20 1.50's the turbo lite rims with the grooved break edge.

the 7l's have the weird break edge as skateer described i have had several of those

ambrosia

ukias

weinnmens

femco's

sumo's

ill be glad to learn more so here we go lets play spin the wheel

HERE'S A SET OF WEINNMEN BUBBLES WAITING FOR THE 79 TORKER BIG BOY SO DATE THOSE

I don't know if I'd trust that. I thought 7Xes came out in or around 1980. Early 1970s is pretty wrong. Maybe that's a typo, but if so, how many other typos are in that? And 1972 seems a little early for 7bs.

I was thinking something in the same time frame as Steve--1977 or 1978. For sure 1979.

But, like Steve, I'm not sure.

I remember when building my bike in 78/79 that I couldn't get 7C rims since they were the new hot product, and tough to get. Ended up with 7Bs. So I'm with S. Brothers, about 1978.

In the Oct. 1978 BMXA there is an ad for the new Redline MX-II and is has front and rear 7Cs.

I can't find any examples before 1978. Everything looks like a 7b or some dimpled steel rim.
