100 Mile Ride on a BMX with Motomags for MS

Recommended Posts

In all my years of riding I only did a century once. That was on an 18 speed centurion ironman. It was a long ride and if I had it to do all over again the number one thing I would have done is to eat almost constantly. I bonked with about 20 miles to go because I didn't eat enough calories. Anyway, good luck and I gave you a Digg. Let us know how it turns out.

Regarding "diggs" - you might want to test and make sure that your "digg" went through because you have to sign in on digg.com for your digg to register - (you just create a username/password, you don't have to create a profile or anything). When it no longer says "digg it" and it says "dugg!", then you know that you "dugg" it.

YOU ARE INVITED TO A "VIRTUAL ONLINE PARTY" ALL DAY SATURDAY and SUNDAY SEPT. 26th and 27th:

Audio and visual refreshments are on the house!

DIRECTIONS:

1. go to http://www.bmxmongoose.com

2. find the mp3 player on the website and click play

3. Kick back and watch the map for updates and or replays of the MS100 bike ride!

ARE YOU TOO BUSY or GOING TO ANOTHER PARTY this weekend? LET ME BE YOUR DJ! Connect the audio-out on your computer to your stereo, go to http://www.bmxmongoose.com , find the mp3 player on the website and click play.

I have over 100 great party songs, some you have never heard before including some "mash-ups" that are guaranteed to mess with your mind!

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST - send me all the positive energy you can! Yes, I've been training (a lot), nonetheless, this has been very a humbling experience for me - so keep me in your thoughts while I embark on this "FANTASTIC VOYAGE" (which also happens to be the first song on my playlist).

INFO ABOUT THE RIDE:

On Sept. 26th, I'm riding 100 miles for Multiple Sclerosis on a factory original 1979 BMX Mongoose with Motomag wheels - see a pic of it here: http://www.bmxmongoose.com

For those unfamiliar with cycling, what I'm attempting to do is the equivalent of competing in a Formula One Auto Race with a Go-Cart - I honestly don't know if I can do it - I did 90 miles last week but it was really hard - 100 miles is a tough ride even on a 21 speed. But if I reach my fundraising goal, I promise I will complete the entire 100 mile ride and then I'll probably crash into a tree.

If you can't donate, I totally understand but please be sure to forward this on to your friends because chances are, they had a BMX when they were a kid and know how crazy this stunt is.

Click here to donate whatever you can (there's a $5 minimum): http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/...&fr_id=9950

After the event, there should be a lot of really great pics of the ride on my webpage so be sure to check 'em out: http://www.bmxmongoose.com

Thanks for listening!

Thanks for all the great support - I finished both rides!

At the last second, I decided to turn down the Century Loop to complete the 101.13 Miles - I finished dead last but only 3 minutes behind the last group of multi-geared cyclists.

The next day, I completed a much more difficult (yet shorter) ride back of 80.4 miles. There were many obstacles: a sadistic headwind and the ever looming threat of being ordered onto a "sag truck" (the truck that picks up stranded cyclists and wraps up the ride at 5pm).

...and the final obstacle...

...a speed bump...20 feet in front of the finish line...

...you know how this story ends: I ramped it - once again, showing the world the awesome power of Motomags!

Then I slammed back on my brake pedal and left a 130 degree skid-mark across the finish line - we've got video - I'll link to it as soon as it's up!

I don't blame you if you don't believe me because honestly, I'm even more surprised than you are.

No walking, no "sag rides", just old school ridin'

I'll write more about it very soon - with pics and video - to http://www.bmxmongoose.com in the meantime, this mongoose needs to sleep!

Thanks again for all of your support!

Thanks!

THE VIDEO AND PICS OF THE RIDE ARE UP!

Check it out here: http://www.bmxmongoose.com

I raised $609 and most of the donations came from the BMX community.

And my time for the first 101 mile day was about 10 hours.

What you couldn't do the full 180 deg slide.

Glad you made it. How much did you finally rise?

Wow that is a long time in the saddle!

I hope someone had a cold beer for you when you finished.
