Starting Gate Pics - "Random gates"

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking it's time to start something new...(well actually these are old, but we like old stuff)...so I'm gonna start with some of the earliest gates I have.

I actually have quite a few of these, some are personal photos, some are from early magazines and papers and some are pilfered right off the net.

If anyone has some of their own 'gates' to add, please feel free to post em up.

This first one is the earliest gate I could find from my home track, WSA. This picture is out of a magazine called "BMX Racers Journal" from April 1975.

Oh yea Patrick, that is cool as hell!!!

Here is one Scot Bteithaupt sent me when I was putting together my Schwinn presentation for last years HOF. This is from Scots' track B.U.M.S. very early 70s. It is not actually a gate but I figured I would give it an honorable mention.

AWESOME thread!

Here is my earliest. I'm the second from the left. I'd say from '83 or so...

Morgan Hill ABA Springnat 1982, JG Garonzik on the end, Bubba Hayes pulling a wheelie, and Jon Anderson who went to soon. He spun his rear tire, managed to stay up and is coming out on the wrong foot. (He did not advance from this semi.) Bubba went on to triple. Circled myself to show grandma. Got a third in the main.

Here is the only get shot I have of myself, ABA Fall Nationals 1982, Lancaster CA.

I have tried to find out who the other riders are, but can't seem to find out. 16 or 17 expert (whichever one they had that year.) The only one I know for sure is the Nomura rider. Wayne Croasdale verified that he is Billy Harrison.

If anybody knows who the rest are, let me know.

Oh! Almost forgot, I am 153.

That is too funny, two random pictures with my brother in law in them.

Someone else sent me another gate picture with Jon in it, this is as good a place as any to add it. This is the 16ex main at the 83 World Championships.

In the one picture below I am asking Rick if he is sure he really wants to push this boat anchor out of the gate? He said, "no problem, you can count on me."

In the other picrure is me "counting on Rick" to be asleep on the gate while the rest ride off and leave me yelling at him. (actually I was laughing at him while he yelled at himself) :ROTFLMAO:

I like the grass and weeds around the starting gate in Steve's photo. That sure wouldn't fly today... :P

That is Patterson, when he was sponsored by our local bike shop, Cyclepath of Hayward. Just before the AAA days.
