Elina Super Pro on Ebay

Recommended Posts

I just took a closer look at this Elina Super Pro on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/330811897534?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Here's what concerns me.

1. There is no Taihei stamp on the bottom

2. There is no Elina stamp on the bottom

3. There appears to be glue where it looks someone recovered this seat, though it looks like it was done a while ago.

Just a warning, this is not a Taihei Elina Super Pro "stamped" seat.

I may be wrong, but would hate for someone to over pay for a copy...

Here's what I always thought they looked like underneath

some brands went through several different manufacturers back in the day (as I'm sure you're aware). I'm not saying either way on the seat in question, but I would like to point out that it appears to have a "76" stamped in the bottom, and the one you posted has an "81" stamped in it, so perhaps the one on ebay is a few years older and was made by a diff. vendor/manufacturer, which might also account for the excess glue. Just a thought.

Edit: Also they both say "Material Nylon" and "Japan" in the same general area.

Seems so, apparently Matex was the earlier manufacturer before Taihei.

Better safe than sorry right? I had never seen one stamped underneath like that.

Yup just a different stamp for era, it's real

- the ones I had and the last one I still own have no date, pre 78, they were the quilted with metal saddle tabs (looks like the 78 has molded plastic and the 81 has none) - Matex molded the saddles for taihei ... And the glue is always slopped up, some more then others

It's the sweetest of all the OS leathers and quilts in my opinion - far nicer and more comfortable then any cinelli, kashi, San Marco etc
