STUNNING RARE OG 85' PK RIPPER

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have recently come over to this site because I know this site is more focused on the "unrestored" aspect of BMX collecting. So I thought I would share this amazing piece of BMX history with all of you.

I bought this 85' SE PK RIPPER from a man selling his whole mint childhood BMX collection at the Whittier bike swap about two weeks ago. I was told, the man was adopted and had parents that were fairly well off and bought the kid a bunch of bikes over a certain period of years in the early to mid 80's. All the bikes he brought that day were in pieces because they were all never really assembled originally. The owners passion was BMX in jr. High school and high school he told me. I was also told that supposedly Him and his wife were selling off their whole collection to pay for their 401k? The owner told me he loved to keep his bikes new and in pieces in boxes. :)

When I arrived I was selling stuff too, so I was focused on getting all of my stuff out and displayed to be sold. I then noticed right away all these people swarmed around this family with all these mint bikes. Three pk ripper framesets, 1 complete 90's pk ripper, 1 complete NOS skyway, 2 complete gts one GT f/f. The guy had about 9 completes and tons of NOS and mint parts, a table full of parts. Once I heard about all the extreme bargains I missed, I heard the mans wife arguing with people about how the prices were too low. She started raising all the prices right away. By the time people had started to settle down and i was able to get Jeff, (king stinger) to watch my stuff i was selling, i managed to walk over there and notice they didnt get rid of everything yet. Since her and her husband were telling mostly everyone that the stuff was higher prices now (even though it was still extremely great deals), I asked about this GEM that was catching my eye. A white PK RIPPER. To me it looked repainted because the decals and paint were pretty much perfect. I'm thinking that it was repopped. I asked the man what he knew about the bike. He then responded back telling me it was a 91'. I then noticed, (nonamecruiser) looking at it also and out of respect I asked him if he was interested in it. He told me he was, but had already got some stuff from this guy so it was all me. :) Nonamecruiser then said whispering to me, "Dude, that's not a 91', look at the rear drops and the landing gear fork." Me not being an SE person ran back to my stuff for sale where Jeff was and asked him right away. Luckily, Jeff knows his stuff, especially SE. So he walked over there with me to confirm it. I guess Jeff thought I had already grabbed it and started saying right in front of the guy, "Ya, man, you scored, that's an 85' look the the straight rear drops, they only made those for one year.. Also, look at that landing gear fork, its the only year to have the SE logo stamped vertically." LOL, I'm thinking to myself, "uh, oh"........ Luckily I had just given the guy a down payment to hold the frame for me until I could run to the atm or get enough money by the end of the day selling my stuff. Well, long story turned shorter, I lotted all my stuff up at the end of the day to Jeff and Ephram and sold it all to them in order to pay for my new GEM.

check out all the pics, this is what the guy was selling, most was behind the table, kind of hard to see.

I hope you all enjoyed this neat story.

P.S. I would have totally grabbed all the bikes if I could have because the deals were beyond great. If I had enough funds I would have grabbed the skyway too. So I settled for second best.

YOU CAN SEE MY GEM UPSIDE DOWN BEHIND THE TABLE. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND ALL THESE PICTURES WERE WHEN I GRABBED IT AT THE SWAP TAKEN AT THE SWAP BEFORE I GAVE THE BIKE SOME GENTLE LOVE. :)

Welcome to the Society. Get ready to learn some cool shit.

I definitely like it here. It was an interesting way to start off, but I guess hats how it is sometimes. I guess I have to work my way up.....

Joe, you are the man..... Great build as I was fortunate to see that chrome beauty in person. :)

Hey Sean. Nice frameset!

No hard feelings from the nonsense earlier. :OSThumbsUpPeace[1]:

Thanks man, ya, I hate nonsense, I hope you don't have any hard feelings either. Sorry again for the rude remarks, they were not necessary.
