'77 Gary Littlejohn Fireroad Cruiser

I'd been fired up to find a 1977 Littlejohn Fireroad Cruiser with original paint for a while. During one of my research nights I discovered that the earliest advertisement/mention of a 26" cruiser actually made by a BMX company was in June of 1977 when Peddlers West "Introduced" the Gary Littlejohn Fireroad cruiser. The 77's are a little different in that they came with 13/16" seat tubes, no brake bridge, thicker rear dropouts, and capped rear stays that have a wider spacing at the top loop. After that the frames got more streamlined along with 7/8" seat tubes, thinner dropouts, and chromoly options.

Being an early frame I wanted to keep this build in the 1977/78 range, before the lightweight and anodized colored parts era. Sort of a tribute to where the 26" bmx cruisers started.

Everything is original, unrestored.

  • '77 Littlejohn Fireroad frame
  • '78 Cook Bros beach cruiser fork
  • CeBe/Slimline stem with Mathews clamps
  • '74 CZ 250 handlebars w/ Mach grips
  • Takagi 118 bcd chainring, spider & bolts
  • Takagi MX crank, early with fat arms
  • Tange BB
  • KKT B-MX pedals
  • D.I.D. chain
  • Persons saddle w/Lucky 7 seat post
  • Schwinn "AS" seat clamp
  • Araya steel rims, Shimano MX hubs, .105 gauge spokes
  • Uniroyal Nobby tires

1979 Lawwill Knight Pro Cruiser

I was finally able to locate and acquire one these this year from another member. I love Champions and had to get a Lawwill Knight Pro Cruiser because they are as close to a 26" 1st gen Schwerma Champion as is possible. Terry Knight worked for Doug Schwerma and built the Champion BMX frames. He later worked with Mert Lawwill on the Pro Cruiser and applied the Champion design concepts to the Pro Cruiser.

This bike came to me as a fairly run down vintage mountain bike. I initially thought is was original paint but as I took it apart more I realized it had been powder coated with a very thick coat of red paint. The paint was so thick it was hard to make out most of the welding detail. I chemically stripped the frame four times to get all the powder off. Once I realized it had been refinished in the incorrect color I decided to refinish it again to one of the original finishes available, nickel. I spent countless hours hand polishing the frame getting it ready for plating. I wanted to maintain all the original machining marks, tube execution marks and welding detail. I then took it to my local plater and asked them not to polish the frame at all and just plate it. I am very happy with the end result and think this frame looks just like an original nickel frame from the factory would have.

All parts and decals are original, with the exception of the frames nickel finish. All Lawwill decals are nos from Mert.

Parts breakdown:
Frame: Nickel , 26" Lawwill Knight Pro Cruiser
Fork: Chrome, 26" Cycle Pro
Bars: Chrome, Cook Brothers Racking Long Horn Cruiser Bars
Grips: Black, Oury Waffle
Stem: Blue, Cook Brothers Racing Slant Stem

Seat clamp: Blue, Suntour (1 1/8") (Mafac brake hanger)
Tires: Black, IRC Racer X-1 26x1.175
Rims: Blue Ukai 26x2.125 Box Rims
Hubs: 1st gen Phil Wood Red (rear is 126mm BMX)
Freewheel: Black, Suntour 17t
Chain: Nickel, Sedis Sport
Chain ring: Biue, Takagi 43t
Spider: Chrome, Takagi MX
Cranks / Bottom bracket: Chrome, Takagi MX

1982 Cook Bros. Austin Cruzer

Factory gusseted by Cook Bros for the Austin Cruzer shop. This frame was originally owned by an ex employee of Austin Cruzer in the early 80's. According to shop owner Lynn Carter, chrome Cook cruisers were not stocked in the shop, they were special order only. It's believed that only 1 or 2 factory gusseted Austin Cook frames were chrome plated. I received the frame from the original owner and built it like you see it. This bike is my everyday rider and gets miles of fun use all year long.

All finish, hardware & decals are original.

  • CBR Austin Special frame
  • CBR Uni-Clamp stem, fork & headset
  • CBR Longhorn cruiser bars uncut
  • Takagi Cr-Mo 180x24 w/sealed BB
  • KKT LMX Magnesium pedals
  • Suntour 41 chainring
  • Sedis 4L Special chain
  • Araya 7x hoops
  • Phil 1st gen front hub
  • Sachs Automatic 2 speed coaster hub
  • Brooks B72 saddle date stamped 1974
  • old 4130 seat post
  • Suntour seat clamp
  • Cheng Shin Snake Bellies

*Wheels are laced with fatty 12 gauge stainless spokes in the rear & 14 gauge up front.

* 1983 Nora Cup *

GT BMX Santa Ana 26” Cruiser

Never in my wildest dreams of BMX bike building did I ever imagine owning one of thee DOPEST 26” cruisers on the planet, but here she is in all her original condition glory…..my 1983 GT 26’er.  Don’t see too many Nora Cup GT 26’ers - yes, they placed the Nora Cup sticker on every bike in their line up i.e. pit, Pro, etc. - and in this condition with the original stickers nicely preserved and intact.  She’s mint!  This cruiser had a very easy life and I am so proud to own her. She will never leave my stable!

With this build, I decided to keep it simple and not go all out with exotic, high-end parts…Just good ole’ fashioned original parts that served their purpose well for many racers back in the good ole’ days of BMX racing!!   I also chose components that were offered around the same time the frame set was being sold… +1 or - 1 year of being produced.  I wanted this cruiser to be as accurate as possible for it’s era.  I would still love to land a complete original GT BMX by Zap Pads padset but oh well….the OG Flite one’s will do for now. I believe they were offered late '83 according to my research.

Shout Outs and Thanks:

  • First of all, I would like to thank the man upstairs for allowing me to have the means to afford building such a ridiculously dope bike.  Thru you, I can do all things!
  • Props go out to my boy Vince aka Shortkut619 for taking this dope pic of her outside of the Green Flash Brewery
  • Last but not least, my boy Dover aka 551slander for giving me great advice on this project.  I’m glad you told me to go with the black Suntour clamp!

Thanks Dudes!  :rawks:

All Orignal Finish Components List:

  • Frame:    GT 26” with Original stickers
  • Fork:    Undrilled GT 26” with Original Nora Cup sticker on fork stem
