1983 Monty Trials bike

Recommended Posts

I recently bought this bike off ebay.  It's a 1983 Monty T-19 trials bike from Spain.

For some reason all the bikes like it that I've seen have had the handle bars way forward.  Does anyone know, is that how they're supposed to be?

Also, I know this isn't a true BMX bike, but it sure has the spirit of a BMX bike.  I can't get over how it had small gears and a bash guard way before we started seeing that stuff on most BMX bikes.  Kind of a cool artifact.

I found out that some guy in Japan actually has a small museum set up specifically for these bikes.  I might have to get ahold of him to see if he might want this one.  I'm not sure I'm going to be doing much serious riding with it.

cool bike. Is it made by Montesa? The Montesa trials bike that I've seen has a front gusset with a single hole in it. Also, the bash guard was different. Any chance that has Pirelli tires? Again, very cool bike. Been keeping my eye out for a Montesa for a while. Enjoy.

Just noticed that the head badge reads, "By..." Can you please tell us what that says?

Bet the Monty is a tribute to Montesa. Of course, I could be miles off base.

Yeah Joe, I think there's got to be a connection there with Montesa.  I see that there was a Montesa T-5, T-10, T-12, etc. and a Montesita or little Monty that all came before the T-19 and included a gusset, but were otherwise very similar to this bike.

The head badge on this bike reads Monty by Pedro Pi made is Spain.

The tires are Pirelli ML 14.  I'm glad you pointed that out, I didn't notice them before.

The site is still not letting me post any links, so I can't show you the site that I got my information from.  But yes, I suspect Montesa is the parent company so to speak and this was a model Pedro Pi introduced and maybe shortened the name from Montesa to Monty?  The site I'm referencing is in Spanish and I do read Spanish, but I don't want to rack my brain with the technical bike specific language I'd need to know to sort it out right now.  :oof:

I copy the link, but the paste option is not available for some reason, it doesn't show up.   I first noticed it when I tried to paste the write up I did for a bike in last years BITL and wasn't able to copy and paste the text I had from a word program.  Same goes for copied links.  This is the only site I've noticed it not working.  I can paste a link in the shout box for some reason?

have you tried the short cut method, using control+C to copy and control+P to paste?

Somebody else mentioned something about a "clipboard" prompt recently that sounded like a similar issue with copying and pasting.

The control shortcut isn't working either.  My laptop is down at the moment, but I wasn't having the same issues with it.  It's probably something with my computer and this site, I wish I knew more about it, it's kind of frustrating at times.  :Idunno:

I bought a Monty Trials bike from amazon link after seeing fat-tire bikes at bike shops for over $1000. It was tough to pedal at first because I hadn't ridden a bike in decades. It sat in the garage for a year and a half looking cool, but that was all. My wife and kids gave me a hard time because I didn't ride it. Finally this summer my wife and I headed out to the Katy Trail for a 35 mile round trip. My experience with this bike is good.

Hm, I have checked a lot of various options and as for me, it seems to me that you need to pay attention to some fat tire ebike options, for example this Young Electric E-Scout 750W Off-Road Ebike can be a nice variant for you right now so try to google more information about it too right now.
