Early RedLine mystery

Recommended Posts

I'm running early production (1978?) RedLine ProLine forks on my Schwerma Champion - the ones with the lengthened steer tube and punched out dropouts. They had the original “pearl white” paint from the factory but I've since stripped it off. Was a bit surprised to find what appears to be a nickle plating underneith... the welded areas show no signs of heat discoloration.

Anyone else encountered this? As far as I'm aware the early run of ProLine frames/forks like mine were only available in white.

RedLine nickle plating their forks and then shooting them with expensive paint doesn't make any sense.

... but on the other hand it might explain why production has since been shipped overseas to cut costs? hmm
