Great Mate & a PK Ripper

Recommended Posts

Been talking about buying a Loopy Pk for years , finally happened  :)

A mate I ride with has a excellent collection of survivor bikes , nothing restored , all very cool

Got a text message saying he was thinking of selling off some of his collection

He had 2 PK Rippers so he said he would let one go if I was interested

Got another message with this pic attached

Nice frame no cracks or repairs PK67729 , thinks around 1983

I could buy it as pictured or choose from lots of other parts to make it how I wanted

Not a fan of tuff wheels or bikes with lots of colours so we agreed on building a PK from his parts

Told him to check through what silver or black parts he wanted to sell and let me know

This was getting exciting as I knew he had lots of very nice parts

Got to choose between 2 sets of wheels , black Araya 7x rims with Shimano hubs or Silver Weinmann rims with Campy HF record hubs

Silver rims it was

Next was parts , not a fan of alloy cranks so OPCs it was

I was at work the day he was choosing parts for me , lots of pics were sent that day for me to choose what parts I wanted

Stem and Bars

Anyway the day come to exchange some $$ for my PK Ripper

Got to pick a few other small parts to complete the build

Took it home and cleaned it up , and peeled of all the unwanted decals

This is how it turned out

Cool bike. Interesting process. :-)

Good to know also that JC knocked off 20" unstamped landing gears... dang.

The JC Landing Gear bit was news to me as well. Somewhat I liked the bike in its original state, but you sure made it look pretty cool. Congrats to you!

Thanks for the comments guys

I have put the JC Landing Gear in the parts database

Chrome job isn't great but you can get a better look at the forks

Lose the fucking shit forks. Kills an otherwise nice bike. Find some legit Landing Gear. There are 12 million sets out there. There is NEVER a good reason to put repop shit garbage on ANY bike.

I'm with you , been looking since I got it , just waiting for a nice set to pop up at a sensible price

Got to find a right hand tech 3 as well , got an upside down left one on there now  :)

Nice bike. I agree: Lose the knockoff forks. It will be pretty killer with real LG.

Other than keeping an eye out for real forks not sure what to do with it

I get ideas then I look at it and think it's great how it is

Don't think we ever really finish a build , just improve it
