My wife and I spent the day at the track yesterday!!

Recommended Posts

Last race at the local track was yesterday. We had the whole place to ourselves today. Had great weather. This weekend may be it for riding here this year. Depends on the weather.

My wife is obsessed. We used to ride our 2008 DK General Lee 24" cruisers around but they weight like 40 pounds each. I bought her a 2020 DK Swift Pro entry level race bike and she was instantly hooked. I came home one day a couple weeks ago and there sits a $1300 Chase Element 20" race bike. I'm like what's up?? She was like " I needed a better bike". SCORE!

Steve, yes the 24" cruiser fits and rides so much better. I'll always be a 20" guy at heart but man this cruiser feels good.

Brian this is one of my favorite threads because riding bicycles.

Re the 24 I know they are awesome I will encourage you and your better half to also try out a modern hardtail MTB (27.5 or 29r) cause it is also good time. Keep up the riding!

Yep, I bought this 2018 Marin Bolinas Ridge 1 27.5 bike and I love it. Also getting quite the herd of 2021 race bikes.

We had hotels reserved and a rental car reserved to go watch Fri, Sat, Sun but the bullshit covid rules say something about only one person per rider allowed to be trackside. The wife emailed the dude at USA BMX that had stated that and he never replied so we pulled the plug yesterday. Not driving 9 hours to find out we couldn't get in or whatever and waste the money on the hotel and car. We will watch online. Really wanted to be there.

Well bummer.

I did see that post on Facebook. It came off as more of a request than a mandate to me, but just the same probably a good idea. Maybe next year.

That looks like a good one and another GHP to top it off.

Watched the live feed today for over 4 hours. Definitely could have went. PLENTY of spectators in the stands. Truly bummed now.

Yes. Same bike. I had that thread deleted since people over there can't do shit except bash and hate on every single thread posted. Was floored at how a few were reacting to me sharing what happened. I have been doing less and less participation online. Just over the nonstop hate and the fuckheads that are a total cancer to the whole collecting scene but are left to run around uncontrolled online.

I got it apart down to the bare frame yesterday and completely degreased, cleaned and polished today and back together other than the new tires that were on it that were too big. Soon as I get tires (seemingly not a 24x1.75 tire on the planet currently) I will post pics of it. Bike cleaned up nice.

Got the GHP torn down, cleaned, greased and assembled with new tires. We had a great 45 degree sunny day on Sat and went to the track to take advantage and figured we would be alone but there were quite a few guys there with their kids. Got to meet and talk to two guys we have been watching all year in the 45-50 class that we will be riding with. Had great convo and they both wanted to take a lap on our Chase bikes and damn those guys make our stuff fast. Had a good time. One guy had his 8 yr old with him and he asked his dad " Do you think that old lady will race me?" Dad turned 3 shades of red and said "ask her but don't repeat what you said". We were already laughing. Of course she ran him and let him win but it was a good time.

Nice! That's a really nice track, too! Kinda jelly actually. It is so awesome to have a partner who not only accepts your interests but also participates in them. Keeper!

Ya, the track is great and well kept. It is owned by the park district so as long as it's dry, the gates are open and anyone can ride. She definitely IS a keeper. She wanted a practice gate for Christmas so I got her one. We spent yesterday cleaning out the front room of the shop (tore out a sink and  countertop to put the treadmill and race bikes in so we would have room for the manual machine and practice gate in the back of the shop.
