Redline vintage stem

Recommended Posts

I owned this in 79’ 80’ I traded it to a pal, in 1992 I did I tile job for my “pal” he didn’t have the $$ to pay me & said I could take anything in his garage, so I took it back along with the bike it was attached to, I know it’s the holiest of grails what year we’re they made old timers 77’? I believe I got it on a mongoose I horse traded for?

That is an early Redline stem, 77-8 is the right time frame for the stem. I think there was a first gen stem does not cantilever forward. Having said that your stem is early and a real gem.

Send an image of the Schwinn it is attached to please. I would like to see it.

Tom is right we would have ditched the chain guard after the reflectors, but I’m not clearing the Banzai or doubles anymore at my age so I prefer not get my Levi’s caught in the chain

Early stem bases weren't stamped MAX HEIGHT, RED LINE or anything for the double clamp.
