  1. So, back in 2007, at our annual gathering we presented the first of our tradition of annual Life Time Achievement Awards to important people in BMX History. Back then, we didn't have the handlebar trophy, so Rick had to settle for this old Webco the members cobbled together. It was a spectacular bike and hats off again to everyone that was a part of that. A couple years later we started doing the classic BMX Society Handlebar Trophy for the Lifetime award. So, long story short, Rick mentioned to me that he really admired the Handlebar Trophies. So, I realized that with Rick's health challenges and limited mobility, it would be good if he had something a little more portable than the Webco bike. Something he could sit on the shelf in the family room and you know... a nice little conversation piece too. So, this year when we were preparing for the event Steve Blackey, who does all the awards for the site, agreed to make a special version of the Handlebar Life Time Achievement award for Rick. Today I finally got my ass out to Simi Valley for a long overdue visit. Rick has a new something something for the mantle. or should I say... (old timers on the site will know that was Rick's favorite emoticon)
