Rat Traps Through thick and thin, Rat Trap pedals have always been an instantly recognizable, classic proven design and longtime faithful partner in all of our beloved personal history with BMX. Rat Traps go way back... Never mind the 70's and 80's old school, or even the late 60's emerging BMX scene for that matter, how about all the way to the 1800's! We're talking some serious deep history here! The Rats have already outlived us all! All my fondest (and sometimes the most painful) 70's BMX memories are still very much related to Unions, KKT's, Schwinn and many other Rat Trap classics. There is a certain personal relationship a rider has with his pedals that is hard to define and is different to all other parts in a way. Such a fascinating precision instrument. It's no wonder they are some of the most coveted and widely discussed components amongst most collectors these days. We've all cursed them, loved them, filed them, spun them, bent them... We've staked our souls on their reliability. The reflectors alone on some of them have surely saved a few of our lives! In the end, we just can't ride or live without our cherished pedals and when it comes to all pedals, Rat Traps are easily the "King of the Pedal Jungle" for many of us. I've got tons of pics and info on all sorts of Rat Traps, but I'd like to start off with a couple golden oldies that pre-date the BMX era. Check out these Colombia and Torrington Rat Traps from the 1880's and 1890's respectively. I'll start with this and see what you guys have to add. Let's give the Rats some love...
